Connect 10, TxDoT Closures, detours beginning November 9

Work continues throughout the Borderland this week, with a significant closure scheduled to start Saturday, November 9.

When the I-10 Connect Project is complete, those ramps from I-10 to Juárez will be reconfigured to give motorists bound for Juárez separate ramps from motorists bound for Loop 375.

Other daytime and nighttime closures will be in place in the week to come.

This temporary traffic change is necessary to allow crews to route southbound traffic on I-110 into the northbound lanes giving crews additional room to work on retaining walls.

Connect10, TxDoT work, closures, detours for week of September 15

Here’s a look at local project closures for the week ahead, complete closure lists can be accessed via hyperlinks are at the bottom of this story.

Also, as bridges around the I-10 Connect Project begin taking shape, motorists will encounter a handful of overnight closures on Interstate 10, US 62 (Paisano Drive), US 54 and SH 20 (Alameda Avenue) in the coming week.

Ramp F which connects westbound I-10 to Juárez is now closed to all traffic. This closure will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week until further notice. In the coming weeks, Ramp G which connects eastbound I-10 to Juárez will close, too.

Traffic seeking to access Juárez from westbound I-10 at the Spaghetti Bowl will use the following detour: Take Exit 22B (US 54/Alamogordo/Juárez/Fort Bliss); instead of going south to Juárez, follow northbound US 54. Take Exit 23 (Cassidy Road), then take Exit 22B (Pershing Drive). Use the newly widened turnaround at Pershing to enter southbound US 54. Continue on southbound US 54 and follow the signs to Juárez.

Commercial trucks should be mindful that they are prohibited from using many city streets adjacent to the detour route. The official detour has been designed to minimize traffic signals and includes newly widened portions to better accommodate truck traffic. However, motorists should consider using other international bridges to cross into Ciudad Juárez.

The City of El Paso International Bridges Department recommends motorists sign up for an E-Fast Pass which will help speed their crossing and qualify them for reduced toll rates for southbound crossings at the Stanton Street and Zaragoza Bridges.

For more information on the City of El Paso’s E-Fast Pass program, call (915) 212-7540. Click here to apply.

Off-the-roadway work will be for miscellaneous items, such as, finishing a rock wall in the Sunland Park area, flood control work, clean up, and other punch list items.  GO 10 is a $158 million, four-year project that started in 2015 and is finishing on-time and on-budget.

A few miles east, work continues on the I-10 Connect Project.  When the I-10 Connect Project is complete, southbound traffic on US 54 will have access to a new direct connector ramp soaring over Interstate 10 leading directly to the Bridge of the Americas and Juárez.

Connect10, Go10, TxDoT work, closures and more for week of May 5

Here’s a look at the project closures for the week ahead, including a 26-hour closure this weekend on the GO10 Project.   Once the closure lifts, the collector-distributor lanes will open along with the turnaround lanes at the Sunland Park Interchange.

Marking the most significant milestone for the GO 10 project, the full length of the I-10 collector-distributor (CD) lanes will open Monday morning, May 6. The CD lanes – eastbound and westbound – are located along I-10 between Buena Vista (mile marker 14) and North Mesa (exit 11).

Access to the CD lanes means drivers will enjoy additional lanes and more vehicular capacity through the I-10 corridor on El Paso’s westside.

It also means a safer corridor because the CD lanes will help to separate local drivers (who live and work on the westside) from long-haul drivers (such as semi-trucks and long-distance commuters).

For the region, it means near completion of Loop 375 thanks to more access to overpasses and ramps in the I-10/Sunland area.

Pictured above is part of the GO 10 project in the Sunland Park area that represents the most complicated section of the entire six-mile GO 10 work zone. Officials say this section will probably benefit most from the CD lanes because its transformation was the most complex. It involved the demolition and rebuilding of seven bridges and the construction of seven bridges that did not exist before.

Opening the CD lanes in this area will be like fully opening a faucet that had been on trickle for the last three years.

Although the CD lanes mark a major win for West El Paso, motorists may expect GO 10 construction activities to be ongoing throughout the six-mile corridor, particularly in the median of I-10 between Sunland Park and approximately mile marker 15.

Crews still have until this summer to finish roadway work while still being on-time and on-budget.
