UTEP’s Boit Receives Conference USA Spirit of Service Award

IRVING, Texas– Conference USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod announced Wednesday that UTEP senior Cosmas Boit has received the C-USA Fall Spirit of Service Award.

The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport.

Boit showed great showmanship on and off the course this season as he volunteered his time to a total of 36 hours of community service projects and outreach this semester. The Kenyan native recently participated in a 39-mile for breast cancer awareness and volunteered at a Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) walk.

Boit was also active with the SunRidge at Cambria Assisted Living residents, where he took the time to visit and play checkers, as well as read stories to them, and assist with daily activities.

The senior is a 2016 C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection as a criminal justice major and sociology minor.

On the course, Boit wrapped up his final cross country campaign with four top-10 finishes, including a third-place finish at the C-USA Championships to help the Miners clinch their second-straight conference title. His illustrious efforts this season propelled the Miners to their third consecutive NCAA Championships where he ran his fastest 10K time of the season.

Boit is also a two-time C-USA Athlete of the Week honoree (Oct. 18 and Sept. 6).

The Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the season, with today’s honorees representing Conference USA’s fall sports of football, soccer, volleyball, and cross country.
