Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare announces new facility for Far East/Horizon City area

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare officially announced on Friday that construction is underway for its newest location specifically intended to serve residents and visitors of Horizon City, Soccoro, Ysleta and far east El Paso. 

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare – Horizon will serve as an extension of Del Sol Medical Center and will be located at 13401 Gateway Boulevard West. The 10,800-square-foot healthcare facility is scheduled to open in the spring of 2020.

“Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare is committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients, and we are excited to bring these services closer to the residents of Horizon,” David Shimp, chief executive officer of Del Sol Medical Center, said.

“Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare – Horizon will provide the same level of care and expertise in a location that is much more convenient for those in the surrounding area.”

The Horizon-area facility will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will include a full-service, emergency department, staffed by board-certified physicians and nurses who are trained in trauma care.

Upon completion, the facility will include 10 exam rooms, two imaging rooms and one trauma room, as well as a CT scanner; advanced testing capabilities, including radiological testing; and a medical lab. Patients requiring more extensive inpatient care will be transported within the Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare network or to other area hospitals.

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare hospitals earn 2019 Healthgrades awards for women’s care

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare, which includes Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center, announced today that it is a recipient of Healthgrades 2019 excellence awards in women’s care for obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN), and labor and delivery. 

“These excellence awards highlight our commitment to delivering high-quality care to our patients, including mothers and their babies,” Don Karl, chief executive officer of Las Palmas Medical Center, said. “We are grateful so many women choose our hospitals to be a part of one of the most significant moments in their lives—the birth of their child. We take great pride in the care we provide them.”

According to hospital officials, Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare is the only hospital system in El Paso to achieve the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award. The system is also the only one to achieve the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award.

Additionally, Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare was named as a 5-star recipient for gynecologic procedures.

This 5-star rating indicates that the hospital system’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected for gynecologic procedures.

Healthgrades analyzed patient outcomes data for all patients (all-payer data) provided by 15 individual states for years 2015 through 2017. Healthgrades found that the variation in hospital performance makes a significant difference in terms of clinical outcomes. Las Palmas Medical Center, Del Sol Medical Center Receive Accolades for Care

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare, which includes Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center, has been recognized with Healthgrades 2019 awards in bariatric, cardiac and orthopedics care.

Each year, Healthgrades, an online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, evaluates performance at almost 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.

Of the 2019 awards, Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare achieved the 5-star rating for Overall Bariatric Surgery and for Pacemaker Procedures. Additionally, it was named among the top 10 percent in the nation for orthopedic surgery, as well as spine surgery.

According to Healthgrades, a 5-star rating indicates that Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated.

If all hospitals as a group performed similarly to hospitals receiving five stars as a group, on average 222,210 lives could potentially have been saved and 157,210 in-hospital complications could potentially have been avoided.

According to Healthgrades, Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center are the only hospitals in the El Paso area to rank among the Top 5 percent of all hospitals evaluated for providing exceptional obstetric and gynecologic care.

To help consumers understand, compare and evaluate hospital performance, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcome data for all patients made available by 15 individual states and the District of Columbia from 2014 to 2016.

According to the data, patients treated in hospitals that received the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award had, on average, a 36.8 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award.

Similarly, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award had, on average, a 32.8 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital.

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare Earns National Honors

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare – which includes Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center – has been recognized by both the American Stroke Association and the American Heart Association for its commitment to—and success in—ensuring patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines.

The guidelines, called ‘Get With The Guidelines,’ help hospital care teams ensure the care provided to patients is aligned with the latest standards.

“Our goal is to treat each heart failure patient with the highest quality of care so that they may live as healthily and hopeful as possible,” Jerry Gonzalez, chief nursing officer at Las Palmas Medical Center, said. “Receiving this award affirms Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare works very hard to ensure these guidelines are met throughout the year.”

For the second consecutive year, Las Palmas Medical Center received the Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, which recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring heart failure patients receive the most appropriate treatment.

According to officials, Las Palmas Medical Center earned the honor by meeting “specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure patients at a set level for a designated period. Such measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and aggressive risk-reduction therapies.”

According to the American Heart Association, more than 6.5 million adults in the United States live with a heart failure diagnosis. Many heart failure patients can lead a full, enjoyable life because their condition is managed with medication or devices, as well as with healthy lifestyle changes.

Del Sol Medical Center received the Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medication and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines aimed at a fast recovery and reducing death and disability.

Additionally, Del Sol Medical Center achieved the Target Stroke Elite Plus award. To qualify for this recognition, hospitals must meet quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment methods.

According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and adult disability in the United States.

On average, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke every 40 seconds. Nearly 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.

‘Get With The Guidelines’ was developed to save lives and improve recovery. The program has impacted more than 3 million patients since 2003. Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure has achieved patient outcome improvements, including reductions in 30-day readmissions, since its launch in 2005.
