Animal Services Announces New Partnership with El Paso Animal Shelter Foundation

The Department of Animal Services is excited to announce a new partnership with the El Paso Animal Shelter Foundation, a new nonprofit organization established by City Representative Dr. Michiel Noe aimed at acting as the fundraising arm for Animal Services.

“This foundation is one of the major components needed to take the department to the next level and is instrumental in helping us reach our goal of being a “no-kill” shelter by the end 2020. We are excited because the foundation will allow us to reach the community with a unique approach through outreach and events,” Department of Animal Services Interim Director, Paula Powell stated.

After beginning his second term as City Representative, Dr. Michiel Noe turned his focus to the pets of El Paso. Part of the Shelter Reform Plan, approved in 2016, was to initiate a nonprofit fundraising arm for the Department of Animal Services.

As an animal lover and advocate, Representative Noe volunteered to launch the El Paso Animal Shelter Foundation to benefit the Department of Animal Services. The foundation will assist Animal Service through educational outreach, fundraising, grant and volunteering opportunities. Foundation funds will allow Animal Services to further improve its facilities and operations, and will also provide the support to take on special animal welfare projects.

“This has been a long and tedious process and I’m glad that Animal Services finally has a foundation to support and help it reach its goal of no-kill,” Representative Dr. Michiel Noe stated.

In partnership with the El Paso Community Foundation, the El Paso Animal Shelter Foundation is able to accept tax-deductible donations. For more information on how you can support the El Paso Animal Shelter Foundation, visit their website or Facebook page.

The partnership agreement was approved today by the El Paso City Council Tuesday.

Animal Services, EPFD for “Firefighters and Furry Friends” Calendar

The Department of Animal Services and the El Paso Fire Department have come together to bring you a unique calendar that pairs loveable shelter pets with the brave men and women of EPFD.

The “Firefighters and Furry Friends” calendar is on sale now at the Animal Services Shelter located at 5001 Fred Wilson Avenue, and is only $15. The calendar also includes a special voucher for a free pet adoption at Animal Services.

The calendar was made possible through a partnership between the City of El Paso Public Affairs Office, Department of Animal Services, the El Paso Fire Department, the International Association of Fire Fighters-Local 51, the City Manager’s Office and the Snaps for Shelters organization.

City Manager and the Mayor and City Council thought this was a unique way to get the community excited about adoption, and our partners were thrilled to make the calendar happen.

The goal of the Firefighters and Furry Friends calendar is to create awareness for the thousands of homeless pets that come into the Animal Services Shelter each year that are in need of a loving forever home.

To view a sample of the calendar, visit Animal Services’ Facebook page, just search for “El Paso Animal Services.” The Firefighters and Furry Friends calendar is available on a first come, first serve basis.

Proceeds from the calendar will help Animal Services with reduced fee adoption events throughout the year.
