Fort Bliss to Hold First-Ever Armed Forces Day Parade Saturday

On August 31, 1949, President Harry S. Truman established a single day for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our nation. In that same spirit of thanks and celebration, Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (DFMWR) will hold the first ever Armed Forces Day parade and celebration.

On Saturday, May 19, residents are invited to Fort Bliss for a day of activities, starting with the parade at 10 a.m., followed immediately with the celebration at the Old Fort Bliss replica from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  There attendees can enjoy live music, duck races, food trucks, inflatables and more.

The public can access the event at the designated gates at Buffalo Soldier (Airway and Airport Road intersection) or the Cassidy Gate ( off of US 54).

Fort Bliss officials add, that from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. this gates will allow visitors entrance without a pass, ease of access for the event is only during this time frame and at these two gates.

Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, come early and reserve their spot along the parade route (see below.)  The event is free of charge and open to the public.
