Cathedral High Set to Host Six Schools as Part of ‘El Otro Lado’ Program

Cathedral High’s El Otro Lado program to welcome six schools to Borderland.

El Otro Lado (The Other Side) is a 5-day border immersion program for high school and university students, in which they can experience and learn first-hand realities experienced by migrants and refugees along the border between Mexico and the United States.

The objective of the program is to raise awareness so that the people who visit realize that the border is not a place of hatred or death. The border is not out of control. As Bishop Mark J. Seitz stated, the border is a beautiful place that has a lot to offer.

The program is coordinated by Cathedral High School; a Catholic high school in Lasallian tradition. The school is located within the District of San Francisco – New Orleans, and it is part of the Lasallian region of North America.

Via a news release, CHS Officials shared, “As a Catholic and Lasallian school, we are called to have a preferential option for the poor, and to create bonds of love and friendship in which the marginalized and excluded can have a voice.”

Moreover, we are called to recognize that “the throwaway culture is not of Jesus, and that the other is my brother, beyond every barrier of nationality, social extraction or religion.” (Pope Francis)

This school year, six schools are scheduled to come to El Paso and learn about the border.
