Every October, the streets of Downtown El Paso become canvasses for artists to display their chalk masterpieces. Now, the window for artists to apply to have their work included in this year’s Chalk the Block festival is coming to a close.
“Chalk the Block is an opportunity for artists to have their work seen by thousands of people throughout the festival weekend, and they will be shown alongside internationally known featured artists,” said Ben Fyffe, Assistant Director of the Museum and Cultural Affairs Department.
Artists interested in participating in this year’s festival must have applications turned in by 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015. Applications are being accepted for chalk artists and pop-up window mural artists for Chalk the Block 8.
Chalk Artists can apply in one of three categories – advanced, intermediate or high school. Advanced and intermediate artist opportunities are available for artists 18 and older. Applications and requirements are available at chalktheblock.com.
The festival, which will take place October 9 thru 11, is now the largest arts festival in the region, drawing 38,000 El Pasoans and visitors to the Downtown Arts District each year.
