History was made Friday night as the El Paso Coyotes took to the field versus the Dallas Sidekicks in their first-ever home match.  While the Coyotes may have dropped the first game 14 to 7, fun was had by all, both on and off the field.

El Paso Coyotes kick off Inaugural Home Season at Coliseum Friday

The newly-minted El Paso Coyotes are set to make history as they open their inaugural home season in the fast-paced Major Arena Soccer League at the El Paso County Coliseum, 4100 E. Paisano.

The Coyotes will face the Dallas Sidekicks at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4.

The event will feature a variety of festivities with “The Voice” contestant Elia Esparza singing the National Anthem, a ceremonial first kick, the Coyote girls, Max the Coyote mascot and, of course, some of the best soccer players in the United States and Mexico.

After opening the season with a 10-2 loss to the Sidekicks in Dallas on Oct. 29, the Coyotes, behind the veteran coaching of Hector Eugui, are looking for revenge, as well as their first win in history.

Originally from Uruguay, Eugui has vast experience as a player and coach. He played for more than a decade with Uruguay’s Nacional and Mexican First Division clubs Toluca and Tigres, and later coached Toluca, Monterrey, Puebla and the Juárez Indios.

The MASL was formed in 2014 by teams from the Professional Arena Soccer League and the Major Indoor Soccer League. The league represents, according to the MASL, “the highest level of professional arena soccer in the world, and features teams across North America, with teams playing coast-to-coast in the

United States and Mexico.”

Teams are split into four divisions in two conferences — eight teams in the Western Conference, nine in the Eastern Conference. The Coyotes compete in the Western Conference in the Southwest Division, which includes the Sidekicks, Athletico Baja and Soles de Sonora. The top two teams in each division qualify for the postseason.

Games will be aired online at golivesportscast.com and maslsoccer.com

Tickets will cost $5, $10, $15, $20 and $35, and are available at the El Paso County Coliseum Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 800-745-3000 and online.
