The City of El Paso is once again preparing for its annual Earth Day Celebration.
The City’s El Paso Environmental Services Department is seeking vendors and exhibitors for its 6th Annual ESD’s Earth Day Celebration scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. on April 23, 2016 at TI:ME at Montecillo, at 4935 N. Mesa.
ESD’s Earth Day Celebration is a FREE, outdoor event that educates our community on how we can each do our part to help the environment, while creating a better quality of life in our city. Captain Green, ESD’s Superhero mascot, and his trusty sidekick, Super Spud, invite the community to this fun-filled family event featuring educational resources, vendors, food and entertainment for our community.
ESD invites vendors and public outreach partners to host a booth at ESD’s Earth Day Celebration. Booths are free-of-charge, but vendors must bring their own table, chairs and canopy. Space is limited, so please reserve early. The DEADLINE to register for a booth is Monday, March 14, 2016.
The annual celebration includes video and art contests. This year’s contests include:
- A video public service announcement contest for area high students. The theme of this year’s contest is “ESD Works for Me” and it has three different categories for students to enter: 1) General Overview of ESD Services, 2) Recycling, and 3) Adopt a Shelter Pet.
o Interested students are asked to create a 30-second video public service announcement (PSA). The PSA’s must tie-in to the services provided by ESD along with one of the categories listed above. A complete list of ESD services can be found atwww.elpasotexas.gov/environmental-services.

o There is no fee to enter. One winner will be selected for each category. The winners will receive trophies and have their PSA’s televised on City 15, the City’s broadcast cable channel. The winning videos will also be uploaded to the City’s YouTube page and other social media pages. Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016.
- Environmental Services is introducing its first Earth Day Trash Bin Art Contest. The competition is open to all El Paso-area adults 18 and older.
o There is no fee to enter. Artwork must be a scanned PDF document. Contest guidelines are available athttps://www.elpasotexas.gov/environmental-services/esd-earth-day-2016/trash-bin-art-contest
o Five entries will be provided with a residential trash bin, paint and other supplies to decorate the bins. Three winners will be selected from the five decorated bins. Entries for trash bin contest must be submitted by 5 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016.
- The annual Earth Day Roll-Off Mural Design Contest is back for 2016. The competition is open to all El Paso-area high school students and their art teachers. The theme of the mural must focus on Earth Day in the border community.

o The winner(s) will get to paint their mural on a City roll-off garbage container. Entries for mural design contest must be submitted by 5 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016.
