El Paso Giving Day, El Paso Giving Time generate nearly $3.7M in donations

During the fourth annual El Paso Giving Day and the first-ever El Paso Giving Time, generous donors contributed $3,630,966 to support the needs of local non-profit organizations 

This record-breaking philanthropic event was fueled by donations as small as $10 and a matching commitment of up to $1.5 million from Walmart.

“Every year the amount of charitable giving grows on El Paso Giving Day; this time we were given the opportunity to make an even bigger impact for the non-profits,” said Tracy Yellen, Chief Executive Officer of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation.

“Walmart’s commitment of $1 million in matching funds during El Paso Giving Day and up to $500,000 for El Paso Giving Time sparked a spirit of generosity and volunteerism which surpassed our expectations and allowed us to raise more money to support the needs of non-profits this year than in all previous years combined.”

During the weeklong early giving period, the El Paso community exceeded expectations by quickly meeting the Walmart match of $1 million.

By midnight on El Paso Giving Day, November 14, total donations stood at $3,188,543 including the Walmart match.

But, this year, El Paso Giving Day was only the beginning. Between November 15 and December 31, Walmart made a donation in honor of each qualifying hour volunteered with participating organizations.

The 86,346 hours of eligible volunteer time from EPGT resulted in a Walmart matching donation of  $442,423.

“Walmart’s extraordinary generosity ignited an unparalleled spirit of giving measured in both time and treasure, Yellen added.

“We are so proud that our community came together to give financially at record-setting levels and also rolled up their sleeves to donate over 86,000 hours in volunteer time to support nonprofit organizations.”

El Paso Giving Time: More than $400,000 still available for local non profits

After raising more than $3.1 million on El Paso Giving Day, local nonprofit organizations can still access more than $400,000 in matching funds from Walmart as part of the El Paso Giving Time initiative which runs through December 31, 2019.

As of this week, Walmart has already approved $53,795.40 in matching funds to local nonprofit organizations as the result of 10,728 hours volunteered as part of El Paso Giving Time.

“El Pasoans gave like never before on El Paso Giving Day enabling our community to take advantage of Walmart’s generous match of $1 million.  Now we have another opportunity to continue this historic season of giving in our community,” said Tracy Yellen, CEO of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation.

“Walmart’s matching funds are a testament of the importance of volunteerism. We’ll continue to update the community on the impact of volunteerism through the end of the year on the El Paso Giving Day Facebook and Instagram pages.”

Walmart is making donations up to $500,000 in honor of eligible volunteer time.

To maximize their impact, El Pasoans are encouraged to get together with co-workers, faith groups, civic clubs, neighbors and friends and organize a volunteer outing at  one of the organizations  listed here.

Every hour El Pasoans have volunteered with eligible non-profits since November 15 counts toward the goal, but the hours must be entered into the El Paso Giving Time system to receive a monetary match from Walmart.

“We are so excited to see that nearly 11,000 hours have been volunteered already, but we believe there are still volunteer hours unaccounted for,” Yellen said. “If you volunteered with an eligible non-profit since November 15, please take a few minutes to make sure they also receive the financial benefit of your volunteerism by entering those hours into the system.”

$2.5 million headed to local nonprofit organizations after first day of Early Giving

Following an unprecedented outpouring of charitable giving, the Paso del Norte Community Foundation has announced an ambitious new goal for El Paso Giving Day.

The organization is challenging members of the community and local businesses to help nonprofits raise a total of $3 million for the El Paso Giving Day campaign, which runs through 11:59 pm Thursday, November 14.

“Yesterday, El Pasoans gave twice as much on the first day of early giving as they’ve given in the entire history of El Paso Giving Day, which started in 2016,” said Tracy Yellen, CEO of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation. “Add to that the generous support of Walmart’s $1 million match and we’re confident that the business community, nonprofit organizations and their supporters are poised to make even more history and meet the new $3 million goal.”

Walmart will match the first $1 million given to qualifying nonprofit organizations yesterday. Because of the speed at which El Pasoans gave, that cap for matching funds has already been met.

“El Pasoans have again answered the call to big-heartedly help their friends and neighbors,” said Todd Peterson, Walmart vice president and regional general manager. “We’re inspired by their generosity and resilience and we know that working together this community can reach the new goal which has been set before it. We are thrilled to have helped create momentum for El Paso Giving Day with Walmart’s million dollar match challenge and invite others to continue the effort and help take El Paso Giving Day to an even higher level. “

El Paso Giving Day will take place on November 14. The Early Giving period runs through November 13. Thousands of dollars in incentive prizes are available for nonprofit organizations who receive meet incentive prize challenges slated for  November 14 including “power hours” and “most unique donors.”

This year, El Paso Giving Day is just the beginning. Walmart will donate an additional $500,000 to qualifying nonprofits in celebration of volunteerism through El Paso Giving Time which runs from November 15 to December 31.

Early giving period for 4th annual El Paso Giving Day kicks off Thursday

The fourth annual El Paso Giving Day is on track to be the biggest one yet and community members don’t have to wait to donate.

The Paso del Norte Community Foundation, Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare and participating nonprofit organizations will kick off the early giving period for El Paso Giving Day on Thursday, November 7.

“This year, your donation can go further than ever before,” EPGD officials shared via a news release. “Donations made to qualifying nonprofits through the El Paso Giving Day online portal between 12:01am MT on November 7 and 11:59pm MT on November 14 will be  matched by Walmart up to a maximum of $1 million.”

El Paso Giving Day is part of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation’s Community of Philanthropy.  Since its inaugural year in 2016, members of our community have contributed approximately $700,000 to nearly 200 non-profit organizations throughout our community.

Walmart announces up to $1.5 Million in matching grants available for El Paso Non-profits

On Wednesday, Walmart officials announced they will award up to $1.5 million in matching grants to eligible El Paso non-profits through two local initiatives.

The first component of the company’s commitment is a match up to $1 million for funds raised during the El Paso Giving campaign launching November 7 and culminating on El Paso Giving Day, a one-day fundraising event hosted on November 14 by Paso del Norte Community Foundation to benefit verified 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofits that are headquartered or provide services in El Paso.

The matching grant is the largest ever donation commitment to the El Paso Giving Day initiative.

“We remain deeply moved by the resiliency and continued outpouring of compassion and generosity of the El Paso community,” said Todd Peterson, Walmart vice president and regional general manager. “As we continue to find ways to help the community heal, we want to honor the community’s passion for giving and service by committing up to $1.5 million for donations of money and time made to local charities through the El Paso Giving Day and El Paso Giving Time initiatives.”

Approximately 180 nonprofits have registered for El Paso Giving Day, making it easy for anyone interested in supporting local charities serving the El Paso community to donate securely to their favorite cause via the El Paso Giving Day online portal.

Donations made between 12:01 a.m. MT on Nov. 7 and 11:59 p.m. MT on Nov. 14 will be matched by Walmart up to a total maximum of $1 million.

In addition to helping El Paso nonprofits raise much needed funds by matching up to $1 million the monetary contributions made through the El Paso Giving campaign, Walmart is celebrating the El Paso community’s spirit of volunteerism by awarding up to $500,000 in grants through an El Paso Giving Time initiative, created in collaboration with the Paso del Norte Community Foundation.

“We are grateful for Walmart’s commitment to El Paso and for the generous financial support they have pledged to local non-profits through the Giving Day and Giving Time initiatives,” said Tracy Yellen, chief executive officer, Paso del Norte Community Foundation. El Paso Giving Time launches November 15 and runs through December 31, 2019.

During this six-week period, El Paso County residents can choose from dozens of eligible volunteer opportunities available on the El Paso Giving Time website. Community volunteers will work with the hosting nonprofit to enter and confirm their volunteer hours and Walmart will recommend awards of $5 per eligible volunteer hour up to a total of $500,000 maximum for the program.

Local non-profit organizations invited to participate in fourth annual El Paso Giving Day

Local non-profit organizations are once again invited to participate in El Paso Giving Day, the region’s only community-wide day of charitable giving.

EPGD is a 24-hour online charitable giving drive which will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2019.

“This year’s goal is to work with 175 nonprofit groups to help them raise funds in support of their individual missions,” EPGD officials shared. “which collectively, make the Paso del Norte region a better place to live.”

Leaders of local non-profits can register to participate through Thursday, October 14, 2019. The Paso del Norte Community Foundation hosts the annual event to encourage non-profits to build their donor bases, engage first-time and younger donors and support worthy philanthropic causes across our region.

El Paso Giving Day also provides registered non-profits with the learning tools to build upon their success. The Paso del Norte Community Foundation provides the nonprofits with webinars and online trainings.

In 2018, El Paso Giving Day attracted more than 2,700 donors who raised approximately $337,000 for non-profit organizations across our region.

The record-breaking generosity of El Pasoans lifted non-profit organizations around the region well-above their $300,000 fundraising goal as part of El Paso Giving Day.

Annual ‘El Paso Giving Day’ Returns; Donation Bonus, Prizes Up for Grabs as Well

The Paso del Norte Foundation’s third annual El Paso Giving Day is back, more than 220 organizations participating this year

“El Paso Giving Day is about proving the power of what we can do if we all work together,” said Tracy Yellen, President and CEO of the Paso del Norte Foundation. “On El Paso Giving Day, small donations can make a big difference; the minimum donation to participate is just $10!”

To participate, donors need to visit ElPasoGivingDay.org, choose from among dozens of trusted local non-profit organizations, and give.

There is also a unique way that donors can make their donation go even farther. By being a little strategic about when they give, donors can help their favorite non-profit organizations get in on $16,000 in bonus prizes, sponsored by the Meadows Foundation of Texas.

The non-profit organization with the most early giving donations during one of six Power Hours will get a $1,000 bonus. Those Power Hours run from 6-7am, 10-11am, 1-2pm, 3-4pm, 7-8pm and 10-11pm.

Other bonuses include prizes for the most donations and those with the most donors and best attendance at training sessions.

As yet another bonus, the Paso del Norte Foundation has teamed up with Anson 11 (303 North Oregon Street) to make it even more rewarding. EPWater, Project Amistad, City of El Paso Partner for ‘AguaCares’

Leaders from El Paso Water, Project Amistad and the City of El Paso gathered Thursday to announce a new customer assistance program called AguaCares.

The program officially launches January 2 and will focus on helping elderly, low-income customers who struggle to pay their water and wastewater bills.

Many customers are struggling to meet basic needs. Every month, EPWater is forced to disconnect thousands of customers for non-payment. In 2017, more than 15,000 customers were disconnected at least once; more than 5,000 customers were disconnected more than once; and more than 500 were disconnected four or more times.

EPWater partnered with Project Amistad to formalize the AguaCares program, which will help keep services on for customers who qualify.

“We strive to provide reliable, high-quality water services to all El Pasoans,” CEO and President John Balliew said. “The AguaCares program will be a valuable tool we can deploy to help our customers in need.”

The El Paso City Council on Tuesday approved action to contribute seed money in the amount of $50,000 to help launch the program.

“The seed money is part of a Memorandum of Understanding agreement with El Paso Water, which supports some of our most vulnerable members of our population to maintain a basic need,” Mayor Dee Margo said. “This is a wonderful partnership, and I encourage the community to support this much-needed program.”

Under a contract agreement between EPWater and Project Amistad, EPWater will refer customers in need to Project Amistad. The agency will determine qualification and offer services to include money management counseling, conservation support, payment plan arrangements and emergency payment assistance.

“Here at Amistad, we want to help EPWater customers who are underserved and are on the verge of being disconnected from water services,“ said Andrea Ramirez, Project Amistad Chief Operating Officer of Social Services. “We are asking the community to assist us by donating and raising funds to maintain support for AguaCares.”

Currently, the program is in a developmental stage and is in critical need of donations. Officials are asking El Pasoans to remember Project Amistad on El Paso Giving Day – November 15. Donations to Project Amistad will be directed toward the AguaCares program.

“Our region’s only community-wide day of charitable giving is held annually on November 15, and donations as small as $10 are accepted,” said Paso del Norte Foundation Director of Development Anna Aleman. “Since its inception in 2016, El Paso Giving Day has raised more than $300,000 for 165 non-profit organizations in our city.”

Additional fundraisers will be held in the coming months to continue to build up the program.

Paso del Norte Foundation Updates ‘Giving Day’ Training Locations to Accommodate More Participants

With El Paso Giving Day right around the corner, the Paso del Norte Foundation is making it easier for more non-profits organizations to participate in free training sessions.

Originally scheduled to take place at the Paso del Norte Foundation’s offices in Downtown El Paso, the two free training sessions on Wednesday, August 29, and Wednesday, September 12, 2018, will now be held at Project Amistad’s offices at 3210 Dyer Street in North-Central El Paso.

As an added incentive for non-profits to participate in training sessions, the Paso del Norte Foundation is giving a chance to win additional funds to the organization that participates in the most training sessions.

With the annual El Paso Giving Day returning this fall, the Paso del Norte Foundation has several ways for local non-profit organizations to take full advantage of  the region’s only community-wide day of charitable giving.

This year, El Paso Giving Day will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2018.

In preparation, the Paso del Norte Foundation is offering a set of free training seminars and online webinars for participating non-profits, beginning in August. The seminars are aimed at helping staff and volunteers for El Paso’s non-profits to get the most out of El Paso Giving Day.

Interested non-profits still have time to participate in El Paso Giving Day by visiting their website.

The three training seminars include How to Succeed at El Paso Giving Day in 10 hours or Less, Craft a Winning Email Campaign and Building Social Media Savvy. Live Webinars include Getting Ready for El Paso Giving Day and Final Steps to Success for El Paso Giving Day.

In addition, nine 15-minute training videos are available to area non-profits via the website as well. Those training videos include Giving Day Basics, Creating the Perfect Profile and Goal Setting Strategies.

Donations to Local Nonprofits Nearly Double on El Paso Giving Day 2017

Generous El Pasoans nearly doubled their donations to local nonprofit agencies during the second annual El Paso Giving Day.

More than two thousand community members logged onto ElPasoGivingDay.org and selected from 165 participating nonprofit organizations to which they donated. While final numbers are still being tallied, 2,402 individual donations totaled $200,130, according to initial estimates.

During last year’s El Paso Giving Day, non-profits received 1,515 donations totaling $102,221.

“We all know El Pasoans are generous and by focusing that generosity on a single day of giving, our community was able to increase awareness while raising twice as many impactful dollars for important causes in El Paso when compared to last year,” said Kimmy May, coordinator of El Paso Giving Day. “On behalf of the participating nonprofits, we would like to thank donors who gave so generously and thank our entire community for demonstrating such a giving spirit.”

While the total amount raised is impressive, El Paso Giving Day also inspired more El Pasoans to be more generous this year — many of whom had never given before.

While a minimum donation of $10 was required to participate, El Pasoans far out-paced that minimum and donations averaged approximately $66 each, up from $59 in 2016. Of the thousands of El Pasoans who participated, 733 of them were first time donors to their chosen nonprofits. That represents almost one-third of all contributions made on El Paso Giving Day.

165+ Non-profits Set Ambitious Goal for Second Annual El Paso Giving Day

After raising more than $100,000 for local non-profit organizations during last year’s inaugural El Paso Giving Day, local organizations have set a goal of raising $250,000 for more than 165 worthy causes across our community.

“Nonprofits do amazing work in our community. Everything from after-school childcare programs to cancer support groups to meals for the homeless and so much more,” said Kimmy May, organizer of El Paso Giving Day. “We were inspired by the generosity of El Pasoans during our first-ever event, so we’re excited to more than double our goal! It’s ambitious, but we know we can do it if we all work together.”

If you can’t join us, you can still be a part of El Paso Giving Day. Just visit ElPasoGivingDay.org during the day on Wednesday, November 15, choose from dozens of local non-profit organizations and give. It’s just that simple.

The El Paso Wind Symphony is starting its 22nd season as a professional concert band. 

As one of the few major city wind bands in the country, the El Paso Wind Symphony continues to provide quality entertainment to the El Paso community by servicing the performing arts and music education.  The group, comprised of professional musicians and educators, has encouraged a culture of giving back to our community through their outreach with our local schools, including camps which provide aspiring young musicians the opportunity to work one on one with members of the organization.  The group also opens their program by allowing All-State musicians the opportunity to perform with the group at one of their scheduled concerts, in addition to inviting one school per year to perform as the opening band at their season finale concert.

Guardians of the Children

We are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit biker organization that advocates against child abuse. We have been involved with the El Paso community for two years now. We empower abused children/teens through the court systems, and we adopt them in to our organization. They get their own vest and roadname and because a Lil Guardian of Children. We also are involved with the EP Foster Parents Association by helping with their annual Quinceañera and Christmas parties. Other organizations we have ties with are CPS, CASA, CASFV, Child Crisis Center, DFPS, Project Chance, etc. We also take a stand against bullying and go to schools and do an anti bullying presentation.

Included in this email are links to our Newsletter. We also have a Facebook page that the public can follow to see what we are up to, and, this Friday, we are having our monthly public kid friendly meeting at 4610 Transmountain (Golden Corral) at 7pm.

SPJ, Siguiendo los Pasos de Jesus (Following in the Footsteps of Jesus), has asked all

to join their mission on El Paso Giving Day.

SPJ works in the colonias of Mexico taking care of total family needs. They have helped

build almost 500 homes, which they also furnish with donations and new kitchen cabinets and new beds; a public Library with computer and video room as well as hundreds of Spanish books;

a free medical clinic, staffed by volunteers from El Paso; a community enter; and a 12,400 sq ft Mercado.

All of the construction work is done by people who reside in the colonias who have been trained by SPJ.

In addition, SPJ gives out weekly supplemental food bags to hundreds of families and supports the educational needs in the area.

Isaiah House of El Paso (IHEP)  is a faith-based, non-profit organization who runs a half-way house in the Five Points area for men transitioning from incarceration with the specific purpose of providing an array of services for their successful reintegration into the El Paso community.   It is a 501(c) (3) organization and has been granted the designation of an Alternative Housing Resource (AHR) from the City of El Paso.

IHEP seeks to provide a welcoming and safe environment for our men, plus an array of services to address mind, body and spirit for those returning from prison.  This includes housing, transportation, food and clothing needs, help with employment, identification, medical treatment and mentoring from a group of folks who are dedicated to seeing that these men succeed in becoming valued members of society.

Isaiah House is located in a residential area holding four men and a house manager.  The men attend the church of their choice each week and participate in counseling sessions once a month.  The program stresses a no-tolerance attitude concerning drug and alcohol use, attendance in AA & NA programs and the Golden Rule toward their fellow residents.

We welcome those in the El Paso community who feel the calling to help those who are regarded as the new poor in society and want to make sure that they are given a chance to make something of themselves while leaving their past behind.

The Bi-national League was founded in 2017 to give official and legal identity to the group that was first organized in 2013, to advocate for the rights of the most vulnerable people and to protect the family as core of the society and the civilization. All these through public policy, education, outreach and the organization of events to promote the values that give identity to this organization.

PRINCIPLES EN BELIEFS:
I. We recognize and will based on the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as
presented on its Bible, Catechism and Magisterium represented by the authority of
the Successor of Saint Peter, in the Pope at Rome and the local Bishop.
II. We believe that the Holy Spirit is Lord and Giver of Life, and we need to
protect His gifts.
III. We believe that through the grace of Almighty God and through our good
stewardship our culture will be transformed and so we serve in a spirit of Hope and
Mercy.
IV. We believe in the sanctity of all human life, from the moment of conception
until the moment of natural death.
V. We believe that there is a need for prophetic voices within the institutions of
our area and in the community at large, voices that speak the truth with love on
behalf of marriage and family.
VI. We believe that it is essential for those who take up the work of the pro-life
and pro-family movement to remain united in our vision and strategy so that our
mission is realized in every generation and that we treat all people with honor and
respect.
VII. We believe in the Religious Freedom as an essential element of any
civilization. And will work on the correct application of this principle.
VIII. We believe that building strategic relationship with leaders in government,
religious institutions, community organization and the business community is
essential to our mission.

To achieve our goals we have organized several events such as the “Christian Mercy in Times of Persecution” which was a conference about Persecution of Religious Minorities in the Middle East, and, also organized the Binational ProFamily ProLife Congresses in the Area.

The goals of the initiative Binational Pro-Family, Pro-Life Congress are to bring together the community of El Paso, Las Cruces and Juarez to defend life, family, marriage and religious freedom; to become witnesses of the Gospel of Life to the Church and to all the people; and to celebrate the gift of life, building a civilization of love.

The continuous efforts to unite the Catholic Church in the Borderland Region are guided by the post- synodal document, Ecclesia in America.

We have had two Binational Congresses and we are planning the Third one for 2019.

This is why we need the help of the people because these big events require big resources.

I also would like to mention that all the events we organize and the lead of the Binational League is run by volunteers pro-bono. This means, all the fundraising we do is to fund the event only.

MY LIFE AND NATURAL DISASTERS
My name is Patrick Kamara, and here is my story.

I was born in Freetown, which is the capital city of Sierra Leone, and grew up in a remote village in the northern part of the country. There was a great disparity between rich and poor in Sierra Leone. The rich people are more likely to live in the big cities; whilst the poor reside in remote villages. My parent could not afford the high cost of living in Freetown, so they decided to relocate with the entire family to my grandparent’s home in the northern province of Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone is located on the West Coast of Africa share boarders with Guinea and Liberia. Sierra Leone is one of the poorest country in the world. Nearly 70% of Sierra Leoneans live below the poverty line. About 60% of school-going children have to drop out of school before reaching middle school due to extreme poverty. Nearly 69% of the population do not have access to adequate sanitation and safe drinking water.

A civil war broke out in early 1991 and lasted for 11 years. The civil war killed over 50,000 people and more than 2 million displaced (UN). The war ended in 2002 by the help of the United Nations. The 11-year civil war destroyed not only lives and properties, but left the country’s water and healthcare infrastructures in shambles.

I lost some of my relatives during the war. The war started from the south and rapidly spread in all corners of Sierra Leone within 5 years. In May 1997, the Military Junta overthrew the democratically elected government. In 1998, the West Africa peace keeping force known as ECOMOG forced the Junta rebels out of power and restored the democratically elected government. In January 1999, the ousted Military Junta joined with the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) attempted to oust the government again, but unsuccessful.

In 2001, I escaped the civil war with my family for a better life in the United States of America. I started a new life in the United States of America. I got my GED, and continued to a nursing school. I became a licensed nurse in 2007. I had my associate degree in 2013 from community college of Philadelphia, and transferred to UTEP in fall 2016 for a degree in Health Education and Promotion. I dropped out of UTEP this summer due to financial difficulties. My Financial aid is exhausted, and I cannot afford to pay out of pocket for the remaining two semester to get my Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education and Promotion.

Back to my country. In 2012, a horrific cholera outbreak in Sierra Leone left over 270 deaths and more than 19,000 affected as a result of water-related diseases (WHO report). On the other hand, the recent outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and the poverty-stricken state of these areas has made most of the rural communities vulnerable to infectious diseases, occasioned by the unsafe drinking of water and poor sanitation. The Ebola epidemic killed more than 3,500 people and made more than 11,000 sickened in Sierra Leone between 2014 and 2016. In August 2017, a mudslides caused by torrential rain in Sierra Leone killed over 400 people, and more than 500 missing (Red Cross).

Since 1991, Sierra Leone has been affected by civil unrest and natural disasters. From civil war to cholera outbreaks, to Ebola Virus Disease crisis, and recent mudslides.

In July 2014, I left the United States for a volunteer mission during the wake of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease in Sierra Leone. I spent nearly 6 months in Sierra Leone helped the communities affected by the Ebola Virus Disease to have access to food and safe drinking water.

This spring, I will be travelling with a group of volunteers to Sierra Leone in support for ‘SAFE WATER FOR SIERRA LEONE’ to restore clean and safe drinking water in 5 communities affected by cholera and Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in Port Loko district.

The second annual El Paso Giving Day is just two weeks away and this year we’re upping the ante on charitable giving in El Paso.

After raising more than $100,000 for local non-profit organizations during last year’s inaugural El Paso Giving Day, local organizations have set the goal of raising $250,000 for more than 165 worthy causes across our community.

“Non-profits do amazing work in our community. Everything from after-school childcare programs to cancer support groups to meals for the homeless and so much more,” said Kimmy May, organizer of El Paso Giving Day.

In addition to a bigger goal, this year’s El Paso Giving Day will feature a new way to give; El Pasoans can give early by logging on to the website starting on November 8, 2017, choosing from over 165 local non-profits and giving early.

El Paso Giving Day Awarded $25k Grant

El Pasoans will help decide which local non-profits receive thousands of dollars of grant funding recently awarded to El Paso Giving Day by the Meadows Foundation (Dallas).

“Last year, we were only able to offer five smaller awards during our community’s first ever day of giving,” said Kimmy May, El Paso Giving Day Coordinator. “The additional excitement about the more robust Prize Pool will hopefully lead to increased donor participation in El Paso Giving Day, which is critical for us to reach our goal of raising $250,000 in 24 hours.”

Scheduled for Wednesday, November 15, 2017, El Paso Giving Day is a 24-hour online fundraising campaign built for non-profits and fueled by a consortium of corporations, foundations, government officials, media partners and volunteers.

The $25,000 grant from the Meadows Foundation (Dallas) will be used to establish a Prize Pool for participating non-profit organizations. It will also supplement El Paso Giving Day’s administrative operations.

The Prize Pool will include fifteen $1,000 prizes, each of which will be awarded based on the following categories which measure how much excitement each non-profit is able to build:

  • Most Donations Overall (Small, Medium and Large Organization)
  • Most Donors Overall (Small, Medium and Large Organization)
  • Most First-Time Donors
  • Most Early Gifts Received
  • Social Media Star (most reposts with #EPGivingDay).
  • 5 Power Hour Prizes (most donations received in a designated hour)

This year there are more than 150 charities participating; non-profits wishing to participate can register online until September 30.

Participating non-profit organizations have a dedicated donation form on the ElPasoGivingDay.org website. El Pasoans can either give early starting on November 8, 2017 or they can log onto ElPasoGivingDay.org on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 and give to their non-profit(s) of choice on that day.
