El Paso International Airport Reaches 3.2 Million Passengers in 2018

On Tuesday, officials with the El Paso International Airport (EPIA) announced that passenger traffic surpassed 3.2 million for the year 2018.

“Exceeding the 3 million mark is a good sign, not just for the Airport but for the region as a whole since it is a sign of a growing economy” said Monica Lombraña, A.A.E., Managing Director of Aviation and International Bridges.

“Not only has the connectivity we once had been restored but it will be surpassed in the upcoming future. Airport staff have always been committed to and have worked diligently to growing air service at EPIA; that commitment and those efforts will certainly continue.”

The 2018 total represents an 11.3 percent increase over 2017. Passenger traffic peaked in 2007 at 3.4 million and, as a direct consequence of the recession and airlines reducing capacity, dropped steadily to 2.7 million in 2015.

Since 2015, however, three new airlines have commenced service at EPIA and there have been 19 announcements of new or expanded service, which have added more available seats, contributing to higher passenger numbers.

Since 2015, Allegiant, Frontier and Alaska Airlines have started service in El Paso. San Diego, Orlando, Salt Lake City, Seattle and San Jose are all new non-stop destinations, and flights to Chicago, Denver and San Diego have increased in frequency; in some cases, upgraded aircraft has provided additional seats.

El Paso International Airport Ranked top Texas Airport in Passenger Satisfaction

El Paso International Airport (EPIA) has topped the charts again, ranking #1 in Overall Customer Satisfaction in a passenger survey of Texas airports.

El Paso, Austin, Dallas Love Field, Dallas/Fort Worth, and San Antonio participated in the survey collected over the second quarter of 2016, April through June, by the Airports Council International (ACI) Air Service Quality (ASQ).

“At the El Paso International Airport, our staff works hard to provide a high level of customer service and amenities to the traveling public. Receiving this recognition for the second consecutive time this year reaffirms that our efforts are making a lasting positive impact on travelers,” Aviation Director Monica Lombraña said.

ACI ASQ is a world-wide airport benchmarking program that measures passenger satisfaction. For the last ten years, the program has been working to help airport’s better understand the quality of services they deliver and the needs of the passengers in which they serve by providing research tools and management information.
