El Paso to join ‘Make Music Day’ worldwide celebration of music on June 21

For the first time ever, El Paso will join in the worldwide celebration of the joy of making music.

This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event will take place online on the Make Music El Paso Facebook page.

From 9am through 8pm MST on Sunday June 21st, the El Paso International Music Foundation will host a live feed featuring local artists and genres from Opera to HipHop, musical instrument lessons with local instructors, and special presentations from community leaders and music organizations.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Day is open to anyone who wants to take part.

Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

“We invite you to also share your musical talents with the hashtag #MakeMusicElPaso,” EPIMF officials shared. “We strongly encourage everyone to take this day — the longest day of the year — to make music in your homes, out in your neighborhoods, or with your Dad on this Father’s Day.”

As an added incentive, officials will select one of the #MakeMusicElPaso participants to win free studio time at Star City Studio thanks to their generous donation.

Make Music Day is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries.

“Have fun but stay safe…and always make music!” organization officials added.

The El Paso Community Foundation is the fiscal sponsor of the El Paso International Music Foundation.

2nd annual Locals Week to feature homegrown El Paso musicians

El Paso International Music Foundation ‘Local’s Week’ returns with more musicians and more venues.

“The El Paso International Music Foundation’s intent during Locals Week is to highlight and shed a spotlight on our city’s talented musicians to further their mission of connecting the El Paso community and its local artists,” EPIMF Officials shared.

Throughout the year, the non-profit organization has provided local musicians with various workshops, mixers, music business education, and community outreach initiatives.

One of those initiatives includes bridging local artists and the El Paso community during Locals Week.

Last year, Locals Week drew over 2,000 attendees across nine different venues in and around the downtown area with bands and artists ranging from rock, jazz to hip-hop.

This year it returns bigger and better than ever with an even longer roster of musicians, bands and venues spanning a larger footprint across the city of El Paso. This year’s venues will include, Good Times, Love Buzz, San Carlos Building, The Lowbrow Palace, B-17’s Oyster Pub, INTL, Monarch, Neon Rose, The District, Pizza Joint, and the El Paso Street Car.

The public is invited to support local musicians during Locals Week with many of the shows charging no cover or a minimal cover charge of $5.

At least five of the venues will also be open to people of all ages with the rest set at 21+.

Locals Week begins Wednesday, September 25th through Saturday, September 29, 2019.

Museum of History to Host Rockin’ Tykes Winter Celebrations Around the World

The El Paso Museum of History (EPMH) invites families to bring their children to sing, dance and play nostalgic childhood games this weekend.

EPMH is hosting the Rockin’ Tykes Winter Celebrations Around the World event on Saturday, December 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We invite community members to bring their kids and enjoy a fun-filled day at the Museum of History.”

The event, held in collaboration with the El Paso International Music Foundation, is an immersive music experience that offers engaging activities using various instruments, rhythm sticks, egg shakers, high impact movement, music and more. The program is geared towards children 18 months to 4 years accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The program Rockin’ Tykes is held monthly at various family-friendly community locations.

According to officials, Rockin’ Tykes highlights the “importance of parent and child play, as well as exposure and facilitation of peer interactions. The goal of the program is to make a positive impact in children’s overall development and well-being through the arts.”

The theme for December is Winter Celebrations Around the World highlighting cultural and holiday traditions from different parts of the globe.

Following the musical activities, children can participate in make-and-take holiday craft projects, and guests are welcome to explore museum galleries.

The El Paso International Music Foundation (EPIMF) is a new organization established to empower musicians from El Paso and neighboring cities Juarez and Las Cruces.
