Amidst the resurgence of the vinyl LP music format, All That Music & Video Collector’s Marketplace (ATMV) is once again joining independent record stores and music enthusiasts around the world for Record Store Day (RSD) 2018 on Saturday, April 21.
“It’s like Christmas in April for record stores,” said ATMV owner George Reynoso. “Record Store Day celebrates everything great about the culture of music collectors and fans, and as the Borderland’s largest and best-stocked record store, we take it seriously.”
RSD is a one-day collaboration between artists, record labels and independent music stores to issue limited-edition releases celebrating the vinyl record format.
“You’re looking at releases from classic artists like David Bowie, The Doors, Johnny Cash, The Who, Marvin Gaye, U2, Led Zeppelin and The Police, as well as current artists like Arcade Fire, Run the Jewels, Taylor Swift, and Niall Horan,” said Reynoso.
First opened in 1980, when ATMV first opened as Nostalgia Records, Reynoso shares that his store “has been El Paso’s premier music marketplace, featuring a selection of physical music and movie media, posters, pop culture collectibles and LP paraphernalia is the largest in El Paso and southern New Mexico.”
With vinyl now accounting for 14% of physical music sales in the U.S. (according to Billboard), RSD has become an opportunity for enthusiasts to get their hands on rare or never-before-heard music from their favorite artists. This year alone, there are over 400 new releases making their debut on RSD – and when some of these releases sell out, they’ll never be issued again.
Reynoso said ATMV opens an hour early at 9 a.m., and will have hourly giveaways of LP box sets, gift cards, turntables and LP paraphernalia. ATMV has also beefed up its selection of new releases in preparation.
He adds that customers will be limited to two (2) RSD releases per purchase in order to be fair. However, customers can rejoin the line to make multiple purchases. He also urges his customers to come early, since quantities of some new release LPs are very limited and sell out very quickly.
