TxDoT, Connect 10 project closures, detours for week of February 9

Here’s a look  project closures for the week ahead, including full closures of I-10 and a continuous high impact closure on Mesa starting Monday morning.

A complete overnight closure of Interstate 10 at US 54 has been rescheduled for Monday, February 10, to allow crews to work on a concrete railing on a new overpass. The work will take place on the new direct connector which will link southbound US 54 to the Bridge of the Americas at the Spaghetti Bowl.

Closures have also been rescheduled on Monday and Tuesday nights for bridge deck work on SH 20 (Alameda Avenue). The closures were rescheduled due to cold, wet weather.

Mesa Park Interchange Project – 26 Hour Closure!

Sunday, Feb. 9 through Monday, Feb. 10
4 a.m. to 6am

  • I-10 westbound from Schuster to Sunland Park
  • Detour: Traffic will exit at Schuster and will use the new Border West Expressway via roundabout.
  • I-10 westbound 27-hour complete freeway closure to move barrier and restripe main lanes, shifting traffic.

Thursday, Feb. 6 through Monday, Feb. 17
Intermittently 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Eastbound and westbound right lanes closed on Executive Overpass.
  • Crews will be working on curbs.
  • Contractor will not be working on Executive Overpass on Sunday, Feb 9 and Feb 16.

GO10 Utility Work – Starts Monday Morning!

Monday, Feb. 10- Friday, March 6
Starting at 9 a.m. and continuous

  • Mesa Street eastbound (toward mtn.) will be reduced to one lane between Osborne and Remcon. No right turns will be permitted onto Mesa from WBCD/I-10 westbound Mesa exit ramp.

I-10 Connect – I-10 Closure!

Monday, Feb. 10, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • I-10 will be closed to all traffic at US 54.
  • Ramp C which connects northbound US 54 to eastbound I-10 will be closed to all traffic.
  • Ramp L which connects Gateway Boulevard West to westbound I-10 at Raynolds Street will be closed to all traffic.
  • DETOUR: Eastbound and westbound traffic on I-10 will take Exit 22B (US 54/Alamogordo/Juárez/Fort Bliss), travel north on US 54 to Exit 22B (Pershing Drive), use the Pershing Turnaround, enter southbound US 54 and follow signs to eastbound I-10, westbound I-10 or Juárez.
  • Crews will work on concrete railings.

Monday, Feb. 10 and Tuesday, Feb. 11

Nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • Southbound US 54 will be closed between I-10 and Loop 375.
  • DETOUR: From I-10, take Exit 23B (US 62/180/Chelsea Street/Paisano Drive), travel south on Paisano to the Bridge of the Americas.
  • SH 20 (Alameda Avenue) will be closed to all traffic at US 54.
  • DETOURS: Eastbound traffic will turn left on Loop 478 (Copia Street), right on Gateway Boulevard East, and right on Raynolds street. Westbound traffic will use westbound US 62 (Paisano Drive) and turn right on Loop 478 (Copia Street).
  • NOTE: Alameda will remain open to local traffic only except for the area immediately under US 54.
  • Crews will be working on a concrete bridge deck.

  • Americas Avenue southbound closure at North Loop Drive entrance ramp.
  • Loop 375 traffic detour westbound at North Loop Drive to Zaragoza Road.
  • Loop 375 traffic detour eastbound at North Loop Drive to Inglewood Drive.
  • Crews will be installing portable concrete traffic barrier on entrance ramp and work zone striping.

I-10 Landscape Improvements

Monday, Jan. 13 through Friday, March 20, 2020
9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • I-10 alternating eastbound and westbound left and right lane closures between Eastlake Boulevard and Horizon Boulevard.
  • I-10 alternating eastbound and westbound entrance and exit ramps to include turnaround.
  • Closure is necessary for construction of landscape improvements to include excavation, ground cover, modular block planters, concrete and maintenance.

LED Chevrons on I-10

Until further notice
8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • I-10 alternating eastbound and westbound left lane closures 2 miles east of Fabens Road overpass.
  • I-10 alternating eastbound and westbound left lane closures between Esperanza Road, Ft. Hancock to Sierra Blanca.
  • Closure is necessary for construction safety work consisting of LED flashing chevrons and guardrail improvements.

Complete overnight closures on I-10 scheduled to start Thursday for overhead work

If weather allows, crews will soon place concrete railings on a new direct connector ramp linking southbound US 54 to Juárez starting Thursday night.

Connect10 officials say the work will require the complete overnight closure of Interstate 10 at US 54.

Elsewhere, complete overnight closures on SH 20 (Alameda Avenue) will be required to work on a bridge deck.

Thursday, January 30, and Monday, February 3, 2020

Nightly 9pm to 5am

  • I-10 will be closed to all traffic at US 54.
  • Ramp C which connects northbound US 54 to eastbound I-10 will be closed to all traffic.

  • NOTE: Alameda will remain open to local traffic only except for the area immediately under US 54.

 

Crews will be working on a concrete bridge deck.

 

The following long-term closures will continue without interruption:

  • Ramps F and G, which connect I-10 to Juárez at the Spaghetti Bowl, remain detoured through northbound US 54 to Pershing Drive until further notice.
  • Ramp T, which connects Gateway Boulevard North to northbound US 54 north of US 62 (Paisano Drive), remains closed until further notice.
  • Both turnarounds under US 54 at US 62 (Paisano Drive) remain closed until further notice.
  • Intermittent lane closures will be in place on US 54 between Loop 375 and Spur 601.
  • Intermittent lane closures will be in place on Gateway Boulevard East between Piedras Street and US 62/180 (Paisano Drive).
  • Lane closures will be in place on eastbound and westbound SH 20 (Alameda Avenue) at US 54 until further notice.
  • Lane closures will be in place on eastbound and westbound US 62 (Paisano Drive) between I-110 and US 54 until further notice.
  • Lane closures will be in place on Ramp D, which connects southbound US 54 to eastbound I-10 until further notice.
  • Lane closures will be in place on Ramp H, which connects eastbound I-10 to northbound US 54, until further notice.
  • Lane closures will be in place on Gateway Boulevard South between Findley Avenue and US 62 (Paisano Drive) until further notice.
  • Intermittent closures of the onramp which connects Gateway Boulevard East to eastbound I-10 at Loop 478 (Copia Street).
  • Intermittent closures on Gateway Boulevard East between Piedras Street and US 62/180 (Paisano Drive).
  • Intermittent closures on Gateway Boulevard West between Boone Street and Palm Street.
  • Intermittent closures of Durazno Avenue, Rosa Avenue and Uva Street.
  • Intermittent lane closures on Ramp H which connects eastbound I-10 to northbound US 54.

Onramp and offramp closures may begin up to one hour earlier than stated times. All information is subject to change based upon weather and field conditions.

  • Hawkins at Gateway Boulevard East intersection will be closed.
  • No through traffic north or southbound at the intersection.
  • Gateway Boulevard East traffic will continue east on the gateway or turn south on to Hawkins.
  • Northbound traffic on Hawkins will turn right onto Gateway Boulevard East.
  • Southbound traffic on Hawkins will turn left onto Gateway Boulevard East.

US 54 Widening and Illumination Project

Eastbound traffic will turn right on San Marcial Street, left on Delta Drive, and left on Boone Street before returning to US 62 (Paisano Drive).

–    Motorists on I-10 Westbound will exit at Sunland Park (Exit 13), follow it to North Mesa Street (SH 20), then re-enter I-10 Westbound using the North Mesa entrance ramp.

·      Sunland Park Drive will close completely in both directions at the I-10 overpass. Motorists should use an alternate route.

·      The Sunland Park flyover entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound will close.

·      The Resler flyover entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound will close.

·      Crockett Street access to Paisano Drive (US 85) will close.

 

I-10 In Both Directions Overnight

Sept. 18

8 pm to 6 am

 

·      I-10 Eastbound will close completely at Redd Road (Exit 9). Detour: Motorists will exit at Redd Road (Exit 9), go to Doniphan Drive, then follow Doniphan Drive to Sunland Park Drive. The Sunland Park Drive entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound will be open.

·      I-10 Westbound will close completely at Sunland Park (Exit 13). Motorists on I-10 Westbound will exit at Sunland Park (Exit 13), follow it to North Mesa Street (SH 20), then re-enter I-10 Westbound using the North Mesa entrance ramp.

·      The Redd Road entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound will close.

·      North Mesa Street entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound will close.

·      Sunland Park Drive will close completely in both directions at the I-10 overpass. Motorists should use an alternate route.

·      The Sunland Park flyover entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound will close.

·      The Resler flyover entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound will close.

·      South Desert Boulevard will close between Thorn Avenue and North Mesa Street.

North Mesa

·      North Mesa Street (SH 20) will close completely in both directions between Remcon Circle and Osborne Drive. Detour:  Motorists should use an alternate route such as Sunland Park Drive, Thorn Avenue or Redd Road.

·      All North Mesa entrance ramps and exit ramps (Exit 11) to and from I-10 will close. Detour:  Motorists should use alternate ramps at Redd Road or Sunland Park Drive.

·      McClintock Drive access to South Desert Boulevard will close.

·      South Desert Boulevard will close between McClintock Drive and North Mesa Street (SH 20).

 

Crews will be moving barrier walls and re-striping lanes.

 

IMPORTANT:  After the closure lifts, motorists on North Mesa Street (SH 20) at the I-10 overpass will experience a change in traffic lane patterns.  Motorists should plan for extra travel time and approach the area cautiously and patiently.

  

City shares list of closures due to winter storm

Some City of El Paso services are experiencing delays or closures today due to the snowfall accumulation from the winter storm that has swept into the area.

Travel

Sun Metro is operating today on its regular Sunday schedule. Some routes are experiencing delays. Customers are urged to arrive a few minutes early to their bus stops, terminals or transfer centers but should expect buses may be running behind schedule due to road conditions. Those traveling by air are encouraged to check with individual airlines for up-to-date flight information, including delays and cancellations. Travelers should arrive at the El Paso International Airport at least two hours before their flight is scheduled to depart to get through the ticket and security lines.

City Facilities

The winter storm is also contributing to the closures of some city facilities normally open on Sundays.

The El Paso Zoo, McKelligon Canyon, the Animal Shelter, aquatic facilities, airport visitor center, and the museums of art, history and archeology are closed today.

Road Closures

The City’s Street and Maintenance Department has been working around the clock to keep road open. Priority has been given to arterial roadways, bridges and overpasses, particularly those on routes to hospitals, fire houses and police stations.

As of this morning, Scenic Drive remained closed as a precaution. It will remain closed until further notice. All other city-maintained streets are open. The state has some road closures. For information about state road closures, visit www.drivetexas.org.

Emergency Response

The City’s Office of Emergency Management has been coordinating with transportation agencies, utilities and other partners during this weather event. Emergency management officials will continue to monitor the situation to maximize public health and safety and minimize risks during this storm.
