El Paso Museum of History Collects Voices of LGBTQIA+ Community with “VideoOut” Project

On Monday, City officials announced that the El Paso Museum of History (EPMH) will host “El Paso Story Sharing Day” this Wednesday.

“This event is about providing everyone with the opportunity to share their story,” said El Paso Museum of History Director Vladimir von Tsurikov.

“We are pleased to host El Paso Sharing Day, and welcome El Pasoans to be a part of the largest publicly accessible resource of coming-out stories anywhere in the world.”

As part of the VideoOut Project, crews will be at the EPMH from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., February 7.  The museum invites the public to be part of the event by signing up for a 30-minute slot to record their stories.

VideoOut partners with community organizations – such as the museum – to reach local the LGBTQIA + community and their friends to share their stories.

On their website, VideoOut shares that they are “committed to magnifying real voices, especially those most at risk….Harvey Milk said that coming out is the best way to destroy the lies and dispel the myths that surround the LGBTQIA+ community.”

The stories are archived in the VideoOut library where they will be freely accessible to the public as a resource for the local community and as a tool for advocacy.
