City Officials Invite Residents to Help Shape Themes for Neighborhood Water Parks

As part of its efforts to revamp and modernize its aquatics program, the City of El Paso is inviting the public to come out and help develop themes for the five neighborhood water park projects – one each –  for each side of El Paso.

Each water park will offer a unique water experience based on its brand/theme to be inspired by the local culture and public opinion captured through what city officials are calling “an extensive outreach process.”

Water park amenities will include: a lap pool, slides, a lazy river, wading pool, cabanas and much more to appeal to people of all ages.

City officials say, “These projects will serve the entire community, while transforming the overall experience for visitors with new amenities and multi-generational services…they are funded by the 2012 Quality of Life Bond Program along with the City’s Capital Plan, and are part of the City’s commitment to enhance El Paso’s quality of life for residents, businesses, residents and visitors.”

Five community meetings have been set for these projects.  The community meetings schedule is listed below:

Two Community Meetings Set For Central El Paso Regional Water Park Project

The City of El Paso invites the public to two open house community meetings to learn about the Regional Water Park project for Central El Paso.

The Quality of Life Bond Project will replace the former Chelsea Pool, which was an outdoor pool built in 1956. According to city officials, the planned water park will “incorporate aquatic programs provided at the old Chelsea pool, while transforming the overall experience of the visitors with new amenities and multi-generational services.”

At the open house community meetings, the Capital Improvement Department will share the concept layout and discuss a possible partnership to relocate the project to a larger site located within walking distance from the original location.

The City is evaluating an alternate location in the general vicinity to provide area residents with a water park that is comparable in size to the other water parks planned for El Paso and to provide viable parking options for its visitors.

The water park will feature: a lap pool with climbing wall and volleyball net for recreational activities in addition to lap swimming, a zero depth entry family pool with water playground, a lazy river, water slides, toddler pool, shade canopies, concessions, individual changing rooms.

The meetings are set for:
