El Paso Museum of History to Host Financial Literacy Event

Officials with the El Paso Museum of History (EPMH) invite the public to learn about financial literacy at the “Growing Your Money Tree” this Saturday.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the museum.  The free, family-friendly event is open to all ages. It offers financial literacy resources, hands-on activities, make-and-take crafts, money related games as well as information tables.

The event will include special activities to spark learning and teach children about money.

Children will be able to participate in interactive activities by creating their own piggy bank out of recycled art material, decorate their own currency, play bingo, participating in a scavenger hunt adventure, learn about entrepreneurship, developing their own business idea and getting tips to be money smart.

In addition, guest can view the “Economy in Action: Centennial Commemoration of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, El Paso Branch” exhibition that will be on display through March. The exhibit highlights the history and impact of one of the most important financial institutions in the region. It features the role the bank serves in supporting the financial institutions of the region and represent the unique economy of the U.S. – Mexico border.

Professionals from the Federal Reserve of Dallas, El Paso Branch will be on hand to share resources to help community members improve their economic understanding and basic financial education. Guests can learn helpful information about money management skills.

The event is held in partnership with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, El Paso Branch.

El Paso Museum of History’s New Exhibit Features Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas-El Paso Branch

The El Paso Museum of History invites the public to view the new Circle of Giants exhibition, Economy in Action: Centennial Commemoration of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, El Paso Branch.

The ninth exhibit, that opens Friday, August 31, in the Circle of Giants recognizes the 100-year anniversary of the El Paso Branch, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

“As El Paso and its economy grew, the El Paso Branch, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas played a significant part in helping our community become what it is today,” said Museums and Cultural Affairs Department Director Tracey Jerome. ”It is an honor to include this institution in our Circle of Giants at the El Paso Museum of History.”

The display includes items on loan from the Federal Reserve in Dallas as well as other artifacts from the Museum’s collections.

Via a news release officials with the museum shared:

“The El Paso Branch, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas opened its doors in 1918. Since then, this institution has served the financial institutions of our region and has represented the economy of the U.S. – Mexico border. The branch fills an important role in the economy of West Texas and Southern New Mexico. Through relationships with stakeholders, the El Paso Branch, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas helps support monetary policy decisions and works to improve economic understanding and basic financial education.”

The Wall of Giants is an annual project of the El Paso Museum of History, which honors a person, entity, location, or event that has had an ongoing impact on the city. A community group called the Circle of Giants chooses the honorees.

The exhibition features a large graphics wall honoring a chosen individual, group, or institution and a timeline history.

The exhibit is free and open to the public through February 2019.

Office of the Governor, City of El Paso to Host Small Business Forum

The Office of the Governor and the City of El Paso’s Economic Development Department are pleased to announce that El Paso will host a Governor’s Small Business Forum on August 10, 2017.

Governor’s Small Business Forums are designed to provide entrepreneurs and small businesses with timely, relevant, actionable advice to assist them in growing their business.

The El Paso Governor’s Small Business Forum will bring local entrepreneurs and small businesses valuable tools, skills, and knowledge needed to thrive in today’s fast-paced economy. This year’s Forum will highlight business fundamentals, attracting and retaining a dynamic workforce, and innovation and entrepreneurship.

Additionally, this event will provide a great opportunity to network and connect with industry specialists, government officials, service providers, and the regional business community. Lunch and parking will be provided.
