St. Clement’s Parish School Places in West Texas Robotics Championship

St. Clement’s School (STC) returned to the 2019 First Lego League (FLL) West Texas Robotics Championship here in El Paso on a mission to take home the hardware.

In the previous year, St. Clements was represented by a single team for their first Robotics competition, this year four team represented the Wildcats. Overall, 47 area schools participated in the competition, as both private and public schools were present.

The 5th grade Wildbots brought home the FLL 1st Place Team Trophy in Research.  The Wildbots team members are Enzo Manning, Major Deitch, Lucas Fierro-Vega, Artemio Zaragoza, Aidan Boyle, Aleksander Pardo, Alejandro Saenz, Humberto Serna, Rohan Kharti, and Moritz Kress.

Wildbots 2.0, earned 3rd place in the Research Category for their division. The Middle School Team included Savannah Aguilar, Ricardo Alvarado, Giuliana Daniels, Gracyn Hunt, Nathaniel Lanigan, Joon Loizeaux-Witte, Alejandro Ochoa, and Catalina Pardo.

The two junior Wildbot’s teams from the lower school earned Value Awards for Resiliency and Perseverance and for Research and Moon Knowledge.

The students in participation were Parker Lowenfield, Taro Strathamann, Aurelio Flores, Asher Rubin, Mateo Sanders, Mateo Ramirez, Andres Saenz, Cole Bierds, Andrew Field, Santiago Gonzalez, and Lucas Herrera.

School officials shared, “These competitions are based off of a STEM curriculum, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Students get to design, build and utilize Lego technology such as the LEGO Mindstorm to develop a solution.”

“The First Lego League puts competing students in real-world situations that require research, teamwork and imaginative thinking to solve a problem. The FLL introduces these important and valuable lessons, such as energy, food safety and space exploration, to these students in a way that actively involves them,” officials added.
