TNTM: DC Comics Flash War

If you read any DC Comics Rebirth titles or even watch the Flash TV series you will notice there is an abundance of speedsters. Hopefully DC Comics will be thinning out the list with the upcoming Flash Wars.

Most of the DC Universe is still unaware that Wally West is back. Barry wants Wally to tell Iris West that he is back. Wally is trying to avoid that awkward confrontation.

Meanwhile, Barry hasn’t told Wally that Iris was taken to the 25th century by Professor Zoom and she killed Eobard Thawne with a black hole gun in the Flash museum.

The Reverse Flash Task Force/Renegades has determined that Iris killed Eobard. The Renegades are made up of Commander Cold, Mirror Monarch, Heatstroke, Golden Guardian, and Weather Warlock. They will be coming for Iris.

Oh yea, and Hunter Zolomon is lurking around in the shadows pulling strings on all the Flash’s lives.

All of these things are starting to unravel the tight-knit Flash family. Flash War has been promised to be one of the best Flash stories written to date. If you are a fan of the Flash then you know those are big words.

What do you think of the plethora of speedsters in DC Comics? Which Flash is your favorite? Let us know in the comments.

TNTM: DC Comics Flash movie will be called Flashpoint

If you know anything about DC Comics Flash character, you know the Flashpoint story-line is the one that really defines Barry Allen. It is the story that comes to mind when you think of the Flash.

It was announced the name of the upcoming Flash movie will be Flashpoint. We can only hope the movie follows the plot from the comics.

If you’re familiar with Flashpoint (if you’re not, now is the time to buy the trade paperback and catch up) you know Barry uses the Speed Force to go back in time and he does something that alters the present day.

In the Flashpoint timeline, Bruce Wayne is the one that is killed in the alley. His father Thomas Wayne takes up the mantle of Batman. In many ways, Thomas Wayne is a much more calculating and lethal version of Batman.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been rumored to be the one they’ve cast to portray this iconic character in the movie. Looking at his past work, he would be an excellent choice for Thomas Wayne.

We can’t wait to see just how far they take Flashpoint and see all the changes they implement in the DCEU as a result. Flashpoint will be a great “shaking up” of DCEU. It’s also about time we get a really good movie with Flash as the central point. Ezra Miller was one of the shining spots in the Justice League movie. His portrayal of Barry Allen will give us a character we can really get attached to.

Video – TNTM: DC Comics Justice League Movie Review

Jack and I watched the Justice League movie at Alamo Drafthouse in El Paso. We both LOVED! the movie. All the characters got their time in the spotlight. The actors really brought those characters to life. You really connected with each and every one of them.

The villain was very formidable. There were times when he appeared to be unstoppable.

The best part of the movie for me was when they brought Superman back from the dead. They actually gave him some good dialogue this time. He was more than a one dimensional boy scout type character. I am super glad they let him display a full range of emotions, including humor.

The main complaint from the critics is the CGI. Honestly, it wasn’t the best CGI work, but it in no way distracted from the story. The pacing and character development was on point. You are too involved in the story arc to think about CGI for more than a few seconds.

Like I said, we both thoroughly enjoyed the movie. You don’t have to take our word for it though. We asked some of our fellow movie-goers what they thought of the movie and they overwhelmingly agreed with us. If you want to see a good DC Comics superhero movie that is as good as, if not better than Wonder Woman, then go see Justice League. We recommend seeing it at the Alamo Drafthouse with a bowl of bottomless popcorn!

TNTM: DC Comics “The Button” part 1 & 2 review

DC Comics has been dropping numerous hints that the Watchmen will be crossing over into the mainline DC Universe.  One of the biggest hints is the fact Batman found the Comedian’s blood-stained smiley face button lodged into the wall of the Batcave.

The Button story-line is a four part series in Batman #21 & #22 and Flash #21 & #22.

Batman and Flash (Barry Allen) are arguably two of the best detectives in the DC Universe.  They team up to discover the meaning behind the button appearing in the Batcave.  We don’t actually see Dr. Manhattan or Ozxymandias, but there have been plenty of hints up to this point.

One thing that is perplexing is the fact the button is activated when it comes in close proximity of the Psycho Pirate’s mask.  It emits a blast that knocks Batman across the Batcave.

Reverse Flash (Eobard Thawne) appears and gives Batman a beat-down.  The only mistake Eobard made was touching the button.  It momentarily zapped him out of this reality.  When he popped back in his body was deteriorating and he said he had seen God.

Reverse Flash doesn’t use Speed Force for his powers.  His is a synthetic power.  Upon investigation, Barry finds Eobard is covered with Barry’s Speed Force.

It seems that “The Button” parts 1 & 2 introduce more questions than it answers.  DC Comics has 2 more issues to tie this all together.  I keep hoping to see any of the Watchmen characters, but so far I’ve only been teased.

Since Batman seems to be teaming up with everyone lately, I’d love to see a Batman/Rorshach limited series.  What do you think about the Watchmen characters being brought into the DC Universe? Who would you like to see in a crossover between DC and Watchmen characters?

Video – TNTM: Batman and Flash investigate the Button

Watchmen closer to DC reveal – The DC Comics “Rebirth” one-shot comic book that launched the new universe saw Batman finding the Comedian’s bloody smiley face button lodged in the wall of the Batcave.

This was just one of the many clues that have been floated in various DC Comics titles pointing to the appearance of the Watchmen in the DC Universe.

Batman and Flash are arguably two of the best detectives in the DC Comics Universe.  They team up in Batman #21 & #22 and Flash #21 & #22 to investigate the strange occurrences that have been going on ever since Wally West came back from the speed force.  Hopefully this 4 issue mini-crossover event will shed some light onto why Dr. Manhattan and Ozymandias have been altering the histories and timelines of the DC Universe.

Per DC:

If you’ve been wondering about how the mystery behind Geoff Johns’ DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1 continues, you’ll find out more beginning this April in “The Button,” a four part story arc in issues #21 and #22 of BATMAN and THE FLASH.

Courtesy of the Batman team of writer Tom King and artist Jason Fabok, along with The Flash writer Joshua Williamson and artist Howard Porter, the two greatest detectives in the DC Universe unite to unravel the mystery behind a certain blood stained smiley face button stuck in the Batcave wall.

However, what begins as a simple investigation soon turns deadly when the secrets of the button prove irresistible to an unwelcome third party – and it’s not who anyone suspects! This is a mystery woven throughout time, and the countdown starts here!

In addition to the standard $2.99 covers on Batman and The Flash in late April and early May, each of the four issues will feature a special $3.99 lenticular cover, all drawn by Jason Fabok. Don’t miss the chance to find out more about the mysteries behind DC REBIRTH when these issues hit your local comics retailer beginning April 19!

TNTM: Abra Kadabra on Flash TV series

Abra Kadabra is the new Flash Villain It’s not hard to see that the CW rolled the dice on super-hero TV shows… and it has paid off big time for them.

First they had Arrow based on the Oliver Queen character from Green Arrow. Then they brought in the Barry Allen version of the Flash.  They even developed their own show with an ensemble cast, Legends of Tomorrow.

Heck, they even picked up a discarded super-hero show from a rival network and incorporated it into their DC Comics TV Universe.

The Flash in the DC Comics world has quite an extensive rogues gallery.  The TV show has been doing a pretty good job of introducing a lot of the classic Flash villains.  One of those bad guys will be making his premiere on the show very soon.  Later this season we will see David Dastmalchian portraying iconic Flash villain, Abra Kadabra.

Who is Abra Kadabra?

Abra Kadabra made his first comic book appearance in THE FLASH #128 (1962).  Citizen Abra is a magician from the 64th Century.  In Abra’s time science has made stage magic obsolete.  This conflicts with his desire to be a famous performing magician.  To get around this issue he steals a time machine and travels back in time to our present day.

The “magic” he uses to impress today’s audiences and fight the Flash is actually 64th Century tech. He has no actual magical powers, though in one notable story-line, he was temporarily given the gift of sorcery thanks to a deal he made with the Green Lantern villain Neron.  Abra begins to feel his magic is being overlooked and decides to use it to commit crimes to become famous.  Every time he finds himself beaten by the Flash.

Abra Kadabra recently played a key role in the DC Comics Rebirth story-line. It was revealed he was the villain responsible for Wally West’s disappearance from the DC Universe. Wally is able to defeat Abra by forcing him into the time stream, but not before Omen (one of the Titans) was able to read his mind.  She said “I only really got one word: Manhattan.”

This along with many other subtle and not so subtle hints points to the Watchmen crossing over into the main DC Comics Universe.

TNTM: Justice League vs. Suicide Squad

The World’s Greatest Heroes Face Off Against Belle Reve’s Worst Villains

JLVSSSThe Justice League has long been a popular team for DC Comics. All the heavy hitters in DC’s lineup have been member at some point.

The DC Entertainment movies are building toward the team’s debut on the big screen with Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Aquaman. This movie promises to be a big hit. Let’s hope they find a suitable villain that will require them to band together.

The success of Suicide Squad in the theaters tells me people love their villains. The Squad is a collection of some of the deadliest and most intriguing bad guys. They say there is no honor among thieves, but the members of the Squad displayed some good teamwork. There was more than once a member placed the team above themselves.

Problem is these 2 groups are opposed to the other. When the Justice League finds out about the existence of the Suicide Squad they make it their mission to end it. They believe the villains they have worked hard to catch should remain in prison.

The Justice League will do their best to end the Suicide Squad black ops program. One small thing, the Suicide Squad does not want to have their program shut down.

The 2 groups clash over this little disagreement. Oh, and DC has mentioned there is another team in play that has the goods on the whole DC Universe. How exciting!

Official Press Release

With a record-setting 12 million copies sold this summer, DC Entertainment has set the comic book world on fire since REBIRTH launched in June. With 21 of the initial 30 monthly and twice-monthly titles going to press multiple times, comic book fans are already asking, “What’s next?”

The answer arrives this December, as DC announces its first major event of Rebirth: the Justice League facing off against the Suicide Squad. This two-month event will pit DC’s two greatest super-teams against each other in a six-issue weekly miniseries, beginning with a special prelude in the pages of SUICIDE SQUAD #8, and with issues of SUICIDE SQUAD (#9 and #10) and JUSTICE LEAGUE (#12 and #13) serving as tie-ins during January.

The prelude issue sets the stage for issues #1 and #2 of JUSTICE LEAGUE VS. SUICIDE SQUAD, written by Joshua Williamson (THE FLASH, Vertigo’s FROSTBITE) with art by Jason Fabok (JUSTICE LEAGUE: DARKSEID WAR) and Tony S. Daniel (JUSTICE LEAGUE, DEATHSTROKE). Issues #3 through #6 debut weekly throughout January, along with the special tie-in issues of SUICIDE SQUAD written by Rob Williams and JUSTICE LEAGUE by guest writer Tim Seeley (NIGHTWING, GRAYSON).

The day that Amanda Waller has long dreaded has finally come to pass: the Justice League has discovered the existence of Task Force X! America’s paragons of truth and justice won’t take well to a government-sponsored team of black ops super-villains (with bombs implanted in their heads), but before the Justice League can shut down the Suicide Squad, a bigger problem looms: another deadly strike team is lurking in the shadows, one that could expose dark secrets throughout the DC Universe, with ties to the hidden truths of REBIRTH. Longtime enemies such as Batman and Deadshot, the Flash and Boomerang, and Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn will have to put aside their differences when an evil threat once thought lost to the DC Universe makes their return.

“This story is another building block to REBIRTH. With all of our heroes back on the board, it’s the super-villains turn. And the events within will set the stage for REBIRTH Phase 2 as a surprising team emerges and another piece of the puzzle of the future of the DC Universe, and the past, comes into focus,” said Geoff Johns, President and Chief Creative Officer, DC Entertainment.

“I’m really excited about writing this story,” said Williamson. “This is a great opportunity to remind fans that, outside of Batman, the DC Universe isn’t aware that Task Force X or Amanda Waller even exists. To ultimately bring these villains to light for the entire DC Universe to see should make future Suicide Squad stories that much more interesting. And by the end of the story, both teams may discover that they have more in common than they thought, whether they like it or not.”

The advanced solicitation

The first major event storyline of DC’s Rebirth era is here!

This issue, written by Joshua Williamson with art and cover by Jason Fabok, kicks off an explosive six-issue weekly event! It all begins with a day Amanda Waller always knew would come: the Justice League discovers the existence of the Suicide Squad! This government-sponsored black-ops team of super-villains with bombs implanted in their brains is obviously a deal-breaker for Earth’s paragons of truth and justice! But you can bet that the Wall and her Task Force X won’t go down without the fight to end all fights as this weekly series gets underway!

TNTM Welcome Home Wally West

Jack and Troy from ZiaComics.com geek out about Wally West coming back into DC Comics line-up during the Rebirth event.

Wally West was created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino and introduced in The Flash #110. The character was the nephew of the existing Flash character’s girlfriend and later wife, Iris West.

During a visit to the Central City police laboratory where Barry Allen worked the freak accident that gave Allen his powers repeated itself. Wally was bathed in electrically-charged chemicals.

Now possessing the same powers as the Flash, West donned a smaller sized copy of Barry Allen’s Flash outfit and became the young crime fighter Kid Flash. Wally had a strained relationship with his own parents and often looked to his beloved aunt and uncle for moral support and guidance.

This costume was later altered in The Flash #135 to one that would make him more visually distinctive. The original red was replaced with a costume that was primarily yellow with red leggings, gloves, and ear-pieces.

In addition to his appearances within the Flash title, the character was a founding member of the newly created Teen Titans. Kid Flash eventually left the group to focus on school, while also continuing a part-time solo career and partnership with the Flash on a handful of cases.

The Crisis on Infinite Earths brought him out of retirement, and the death of Barry Allen gave him a new sense of purpose. Despite the risk, he took the name and costume of The Flash, and was determined to live up to the example that Barry Allen had set for the world.

After the events of Flashpoint, history was altered and the people of Earth lost all of their memories. However, Wally managed to escape through the Speed Force and avoid being lost forever.

He was able to project himself onto the New 52 Earth. He needed someone to remember him before being revived fully.  After several unsuccessful attempts to contact his friends and family Barry recognized him and returned him to life. This saved the entire pre-Flashpoint universe with him.
