Seven schools in the Socorro Independent School District will be providing free breakfast and lunch to all students at the campuses for the 2016-2017 school year through the Community Eligibility Provision for the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.
“This is a great benefit for these school communities and we are proud to offer free breakfast and lunch to every student at these seven campuses,” said Shelley Chenausky, SISD Director of Child Nutrition Services. “The CEP program allows us to serve nutritious meals to all students at these schools without the need for parents to fill out household meal applications.”
The program allows for access to free, healthy meals for all students with less time spent in cashier lines and more time to enjoy their food. It also means less paperwork and no worries about lunch accounts or applications for parents.
In addition, the CEP program reduces paperwork and administrative costs at the campus and district level, and more students are well-nourished ready to learn and grow.
The SISD Board of Trustees approved the CEP program for the following campuses, which qualified for the program: Campestre Elementary, Mission Ridge Elementary, Escontrias Elementary, Robert R. Rojas Elementary, Keys Elementary, Socorro Middle School and Desert Wind School.
