Department of Public Health, Libraries Join Forces to Keep Community Healthy

While local libraries continue to help El Pasoans stay well read this summer, they will also play host to the Department of Public Health to make sure they stay healthy as well.

Over the next several weeks the Medicaid Waiver Program will provide free immunizations to those who qualify. This includes adults and children who are enrolled in Medicaid, those who are uninsured, or who are low-income residents of El Paso and Hudspeth counties.

“Whether it’s the Department of Public Health or the El Paso Public Library, or even local hospitals, we all have a common goal of providing services that will be beneficial to the community,” said Claudia Lozano, Health Project Coordinator. “There is no doubt that our impact is greater when we join together to bring our unique assets to the table.”

Those who attend will be asked to fill out a referral interview form which will be used to identify their needs and capture basic health and demographic information. Participants will then be given either a voucher to receive vaccines onsite or at one of the City of El Paso Department of Public Health’s Immunization Clinics.

Vaccines provided include: Pneumonia, Tdap, and Hepatitis A and B along with several others. Those who attend should bring in their shot records, identification, and any insurance cards.

Parents must be present in order for a child to be vaccinated. Individuals may also receive recommended cancer screenings and vouchers to obtain free services at the Hospitals of Providence or Sun City Medical Clinic PA associated clinics.
