TxDoT/GO10 Closures, Detours for Week of April 1st

Work at Sunland Park continues. The flyover to I-10 East is still closed and work to demolish the old ramp and prepare for the new ramp’s opening on April 30th is on track.

As mentioned last week, once the new ramp opens crews will then shut down the Sunland Park overpass, between the two traffic lights, at the Sunland/I-10 intersection. The overpass will be demolished and replaced.

Next up: North Mesa. Work here will ramp up in the next few weeks, with major improvements planned, including replacing pavement in the area and constructing Texas turnaround lanes.

Once work is complete, the overpass will have been completely replaced, and will feature a full bridge span across North Mesa Street free of support columns in the median.

LOCATION DURATION DESCRIPTION

Detour:  To enter I-10 Eastbound, follow the detour signs to the Paisano Drive entrance ramp.

Crews are working to open the all-new Sunland Park flyover ramp.

Sunland Park OVERPASS

Continuous

Starting April 30 and until further notice

·      The Sunland Park Drive overpass that allows traffic to get cross I-10 will be closed for at least five months.

Detour:  Traffic will be detoured onto the newly constructed turnaround bridge located alongside the closed overpass.

Weekdays only

9 am to 4 pm

·      North Mesa Street (SH 20) will have a right lane closed in both directions between Osborne Drive and North Desert Boulevard.

NOTE:  In the next three weeks, crews plan to increase their presence along North Mesa Street (SH 20) between Osborne Drive and Remcon Circle.  The pavement in that section of North Mesa Street (SH 20) needs to be replaced, per GO 10’s design plans.  The work will mean motorists can expect increased lane closures, periodic shifts in lane patterns, detours, and increased traffic congestion for nine months.  GO 10 asks for your patience as crews work to be finished by December 2018.

North Desert

Daytime

April 2-6

9 am to 4 pm daily

·      North Desert Boulevard will have a left lane closed between North Mesa Street (SH 20) and Thorn Avenue. One lane will always remain open. Access to the I-10 Westbound entrance ramp will be open.

9 pm each night to 6 am each morning

·      Entry to I-10 Eastbound will not be permitted from Sunland Park Drive nor from Paisano Drive.

·      Crockett Street access to the Paisano Drive entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound will be closed.

Detour:  Motorists should use an alternate entrance ramp or follow the detour signs to the Executive Center Boulevard entrance ramp.

I-10 EAST @ NORTH MESA Overnight

Sunday, April 15

9 pm to 6 am

·         I-10 Eastbound will close completely between North Mesa Street (SH 20) and Resler Drive.

Detour:  Motorist will exit at North Mesa Street (Exit 11) and follow the detour signs to re-enter I-10 Eastbound using the Sunland Park Drive entrance ramp.

Crews will implement a change that places I-10 Eastbound traffic onto the paralleling eastbound collector-distributor (CD) lanes.  By 6 am on Monday, April 16, motorists will be traveling on the CD lanes for approximately a half mile between the North Mesa Street overpass and Resler Drive. The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph in this half-mile section.  The traffic switch will be in place for several months while crews work on the main lanes of I-10 Eastbound.

TxDoT/Go10 Project Closures, Detours for Week of March 5th

GO 10 is targeting the week of March 19 to close the Sunland Park Drive flyover entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound. Once closed, the flyover ramp will stay closed for several months, possibly into early summer.

Pinpointing an exact closing date and opening date can be difficult in the field of highway construction because the work can be affected by many unpredictable factors, such as weather.

Closure of the Sunland flyover ramp is necessary so crews can demolish and re-build the pavement that physically connects the ramp to Sunland Park Drive. Once complete, the plan is to open the all-new Sunland flyover to traffic.

The I-10/Sunland Park interchange is the most complex section of GO 10’s six-mile work zone because it involves the demolition and re-construction of two bridges over I-10, as well as the construction of two brand new overpasses.

Keep in mind, GO 10’s broader goal is to be substantially complete with structures at I-10 and Sunland Park by December this year. To achieve that December goal, drivers can expect 2018 to bring:

  • more disruptive closures to the I-10/Sunland Park interchange
  • more significant detour routes
  • traffic slowdowns that can affect adjacent roads, such as South Mesa Hills Drive and Doniphan Drive.
I-10 East @ North Mesa

Overnight

March 5-8

9 pm each night to 6 am each following morning

·      I-10 Eastbound will close completely between North Mesa Street (Exit 11) and Sunland Park Drive.

·      The North Mesa Street entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound will close.

·      The Resler Drive flyover entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound will close.

·      The Sunland Park flyover entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound will close.

Detour:  Eastbound traffic will exit at North Mesa Street (Exit 11) and take Doniphan Drive to Sunland Park Drive. Traffic may re-enter I-10 Eastbound from the Sunland Park Drive entrance ramp.

Sunland Park Drive

24/7

Possibly March 19 through early summer

March 19 is a target date. A definite start date will be announced soon.

·      The Sunland Park Drive flyover entrance ramp to I-10 Eastbound will be inaccessible.

Closure of the Sunland flyover ramp is anticipated to be a high impact condition. During this closure, drivers are encouraged to consider taking alternate routes when they can or avoid the I-10/Sunland Park interchange during peak rush hours.

For drivers who must travel through the interchange, they may like to consider carpooling to help reduce the number of vehicles on the road; plus, they may like to give themselves more time to arrive at their destinations on time.

Employers may like to offer employees the ability to work remotely or encourage meetings be conducted via teleconference rather than in-person when possible.

TxDot/GO10 Construction & Detours for Week of July 23rd

Crews continue to work night and day to complete the Go10 Project on the city’s west side. Below is the work schedule for next week, as well as some new pictures of the work.

New bridges continue to take shape at I-10/Sunland and I-10/Mesa.  Below are aerial images (captured June 28th) to illustrate all the work happening at I-10/Mesa.

The images shows new bridge columns for the new I-10 East Overpass. Once the eastbound overpass is complete, then crews will demolish and rebuild the westbound overpass.
