Go10, Connect10, TxDoT closures, detours for week of June 30/July 1

Here’s a look at the region’s project closures for the week ahead. These include the last 27-hour closure for our GO10 Project THIS weekend.

I-10 will be in its final design and open to traffic by July 1st.  Probably the biggest benefit will be seen on I-10 West on approach to the Sunland Park/Resler exit ramp (exit 13). Drivers will find three exit lanes will be available to them, instead of just one.

Additionally, we have no closures scheduled for July 1-7; however by Monday, July 8, it is back to work. For a couple of months, GO 10 crews will be finishing final checklist items, like cable barrier, drainage, rock walls, clean up, etc.

Checklist items may require road closures to keep everyone safe; but, the closures should be less disruptive.

Nightly closures of Ramp F that connects westbound I-10 to Cd. Juarez will continue for several weeks. Crews on the I-10 Connect Project are making progress on two bridges over US 62 (Paisano Drive), those closures will continue as well.

Go10, Connect10, TxDoT closures, detours for week of June 22

GO 10 has two more Sunday’s of 27-hour closures to go, including this Sunday, June 23.

Crosstown motorists are encouraged to use Loop 375 (Transmountain Road) this weekend as multiple 27-hour closures are planned on Interstate 10 in West and Central El Paso.

Go10 officials said, via an email release, “Thank you for your patience as crews push hard to finish roadwork by June 30th.”

After June 30th, crews will continue to work off the road for a couple of months to finish punch list items.

I-10 will be closed to eastbound and westbound traffic at US 54 from 3am on Sunday, June 23, until 6am on Monday, June 24, for the I-10 Connect Project. While thru traffic is encouraged to use alternate routes, the following marked detours will be in place for local traffic which must travel in the area during this 27-hour closure:

  • Eastbound I-10: All traffic will take Exit 22B (US 54/Alamogordo/Fort Bliss/Juárez) and travel north on US 54, take Exit 23 (Cassidy Road), take Exit 22B (Pershing Drive), use the newly-widened turnaround at Pershing Drive, re-enter southbound US 54 and follow signs to their destination.
  • Westbound I-10: All traffic will take Exit 22B (US 54/Alamogordo/Juárez/Fort Bliss) and travel north on US 54.

The simultaneous eastbound and westbound closures are necessary so crews have room to safely lift a steel cage and place it into a shaft which has been drilled in the median of I-10. Next, they’ll fill the shaft with concrete to support a column for a new direct connector ramp from southbound US 54 to Juárez.

A 27-hour closure of westbound I-10 is also scheduled from 3am on Sunday, June 23, until 6am on Monday, June 24, for the Go 10 Project on the Westside. Westbound I-10 will be closed at Schuster Avenue for that project.

A few miles east, work continues on the I-10 Connect Project.  When the I-10 Connect Project is complete, southbound traffic on US 54 will have access to a new direct connector ramp soaring over Interstate 10 leading directly to the Bridge of the Americas and Juárez.

Connect10, Go10, TxDoT work, closures and more for week of May 5

Here’s a look at the project closures for the week ahead, including a 26-hour closure this weekend on the GO10 Project.   Once the closure lifts, the collector-distributor lanes will open along with the turnaround lanes at the Sunland Park Interchange.

Marking the most significant milestone for the GO 10 project, the full length of the I-10 collector-distributor (CD) lanes will open Monday morning, May 6. The CD lanes – eastbound and westbound – are located along I-10 between Buena Vista (mile marker 14) and North Mesa (exit 11).

Access to the CD lanes means drivers will enjoy additional lanes and more vehicular capacity through the I-10 corridor on El Paso’s westside.

It also means a safer corridor because the CD lanes will help to separate local drivers (who live and work on the westside) from long-haul drivers (such as semi-trucks and long-distance commuters).

For the region, it means near completion of Loop 375 thanks to more access to overpasses and ramps in the I-10/Sunland area.

Pictured above is part of the GO 10 project in the Sunland Park area that represents the most complicated section of the entire six-mile GO 10 work zone. Officials say this section will probably benefit most from the CD lanes because its transformation was the most complex. It involved the demolition and rebuilding of seven bridges and the construction of seven bridges that did not exist before.

Opening the CD lanes in this area will be like fully opening a faucet that had been on trickle for the last three years.

Although the CD lanes mark a major win for West El Paso, motorists may expect GO 10 construction activities to be ongoing throughout the six-mile corridor, particularly in the median of I-10 between Sunland Park and approximately mile marker 15.

Crews still have until this summer to finish roadway work while still being on-time and on-budget.

TxDoT/Go10/10Connect closures, detours for Week of April 13

Long before motorists can drive on them, work is underway on the unseen, underground supports for some of the new direct connector ramps being built as part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s I-10 Connect Project in Central El Paso.

Crews have begun work at several locations on drilled shafts which will support the columns for several new bridges. The shafts are four to five feet in diameter and some extend almost 90 feet below the surface. After the shafts are drilled, workers build a basketlike structure of steel rebar and insert it into the hole. The hole is then filled with concrete on top of which bridge support columns will eventually be built.

Crews are currently drilling shafts for Bridge No. 4 which will connect southbound US 54 to the Bridge of the Americas by flying high over Interstate 10 as well as several new and existing ramps at the Spaghetti Bowl. They are also working on shafts for Bridge No. 8 which will provide direct access from eastbound Loop 375 to eastbound I-10 by running parallel to northbound US 54 over US 62 (Paisano Drive).

The work requires a mobile drill rig, concrete pump and other heavy equipment. To ensure the safety of motorists and workers during these operations, the following closures are scheduled for the week of April 14, 2019:

Before crews begin widening US 54 over US 62 (Paisano Drive) as part of the I-10 Connect Project, they’ll begin demolishing parts of the existing US 54 bridge there next week.

That work will require complete overnight closures of Paisano between Gateway Boulevard North and Gateway Boulevard South.

This stretch of US 54 will be widened from two southbound lanes to three as part of the three-year, $96 million project which will dramatically re-shape the Spaghetti Bowl and nearby roadways in Central El Paso.

Elsewhere, motorists should also expect the following upcoming traffic impacts as crews begin drilling support shafts for bridges and continue placing concrete safety barriers:

  • A one-night lane closure on eastbound Interstate 10
  • A long-term closure of Ramp T which connects Gateway Boulevard North to US 54
  • Surface street closures near the Spaghetti Bowl

Below is a detailed list of all closures and detours related to the I-10 Connect Project currently scheduled during the week of March 24:

TxDoT/Go10/Connect 10 Detours, Work Schedule for Week of March 10

Plenty of work, and just a few detours around the Borderland as construction continues on a couple of projects, and a new project gets underway.

As work progresses on the landmark I-10 Connect project which will provide improved connectivity between I-10 and Loop 375 in the heart of El Paso, more overnight closures are planned next week including a complete one-night closure of Interstate 110 leading away from the Bridge of the Americas and the first long-term closure of the project.

The closures are necessary as crews continue placing temporary concrete barrier to outline the work zone for the I-10 Connect project in South Central El Paso.

The 30-foot, 42-inch barriers will create an added layer of separation — and safety — between motorists, construction crews and heavy machinery.
