Two EPISD Principals have been selected by Raise Your Hand Texas to participate in a summer leadership program at The Principal’s Center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Andress High School Principal Lynn Gill and Crosby Elementary School Yvette Hernandez will spend part of their summer in Cambridge, Mass., with other principals from throughout the world honing their leadership skills as education professionals.
Gill and Hernandez will select one of six institutes and fields of study, where they will receive detailed and hands-on training from national and international experts in education and campus leadership.
“We are grateful to Raise Your Hand Texas for helping us give these two great principals the opportunity to further their training,” said Superintendent Juan Cabrera. “We know the knowledge they will acquire and the new skills they will develop are going to go a long way in improving the academic lives of the students they serve.”
The six areas of concentration are:
• The National Institute for Urban Leaders
• Improving Schools: The Art of Leadership
• Leadership: An Evolving Vision
• Closing the Achievement Gap
• Family Engagement in Education
• School Turnaround Leaders.
Raise Your Hands Texas, a nonprofit advocacy organization working to strengthen and improve public education, is paying all the expenses for the two EPISD principals to attend the program.
The program lasts between 5 and 7 days and, depending on the institute, will be scheduled for anytime between June 6 and July 28.
