Las Palmas Medical Center, Del Sol Medical Center Receive Accolades for Care

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare, which includes Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center, has been recognized with Healthgrades 2019 awards in bariatric, cardiac and orthopedics care.

“Las Palmas Medical Center continually strives to serve the region with the best patient care,” Don Karl, chief executive officer of Las Palmas Medical Center, said. “Receiving recognition and achieving top awards from Healthgrades proves our hospital staff’s contribution and commitment to excellence.”

Each year, Healthgrades, an online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, evaluates performance at almost 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.

Of the 2019 awards, Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare achieved the 5-star rating for Overall Bariatric Surgery and for Pacemaker Procedures. Additionally, it was named among the top 10 percent in the nation for orthopedic surgery, as well as spine surgery.

According to Healthgrades, a 5-star rating indicates that Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated.

If all hospitals as a group performed similarly to hospitals receiving five stars as a group, on average 222,210 lives could potentially have been saved and 157,210 in-hospital complications could potentially have been avoided.

“Del Sol Medical Center is proud to be recognized in the top 10 percent of the nation for orthopedics care and to receive a 5-star rating in bariatric and cardiac care,” David Shimp, chief executive officer of Del Sol Medical Center, said. “Each patient’s need is unique. The hospital’s goal is to meet each need with optimal care.”

To help consumers understand, compare and evaluate hospital performance, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcome data for all patients provided by 15 individual states and the District of Columbia from 2015 to 2017.

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare Earns Healthgrades 2018 National Women’s Care Excellence Awards

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare, which includes Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center, received Healthgrades 2018 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award and the 2018 Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award for the fourth consecutive year.

Via a news release ospital officials said, “These achievements recognize Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare for providing exceptional clinical care for women during labor and immediately after delivery of their newborn, as well as women undergoing gynecologic procedures.”

According to Healthgrades, Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center are the only hospitals in the El Paso area to rank among the Top 5 percent of all hospitals evaluated for providing exceptional obstetric and gynecologic care.

“One of the most important decisions a woman can make—whether she is expecting or delivering her baby or preparing to undergo a gynecologic surgery—is selecting a hospital that provides the highest level of care,” Jerry Gonzalez, chief nursing officer of Las Palmas Medical Center, said. “These awards underscore our dedication to delivering high-quality care to our patients.”

To help consumers understand, compare and evaluate hospital performance, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcome data for all patients made available by 15 individual states and the District of Columbia from 2014 to 2016.

According to the data, patients treated in hospitals that received the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award had, on average, a 36.8 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award.

Similarly, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award had, on average, a 32.8 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital.

“Our physicians, nurses and staff strive to achieve excellence in patient care every day,” Annie Garcia, chief nursing officer of Del Sol Medical Center, said. “We are proud to be recognized for our efforts in making our facilities the best places in El Paso for expectant moms to deliver their babies.”
