Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare, which includes Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center, has been recognized with Healthgrades 2019 awards in bariatric, cardiac and orthopedics care.
“Las Palmas Medical Center continually strives to serve the region with the best patient care,” Don Karl, chief executive officer of Las Palmas Medical Center, said. “Receiving recognition and achieving top awards from Healthgrades proves our hospital staff’s contribution and commitment to excellence.”
Each year, Healthgrades, an online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, evaluates performance at almost 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.
Of the 2019 awards, Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare achieved the 5-star rating for Overall Bariatric Surgery and for Pacemaker Procedures. Additionally, it was named among the top 10 percent in the nation for orthopedic surgery, as well as spine surgery.
According to Healthgrades, a 5-star rating indicates that Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated.
If all hospitals as a group performed similarly to hospitals receiving five stars as a group, on average 222,210 lives could potentially have been saved and 157,210 in-hospital complications could potentially have been avoided.
“Del Sol Medical Center is proud to be recognized in the top 10 percent of the nation for orthopedics care and to receive a 5-star rating in bariatric and cardiac care,” David Shimp, chief executive officer of Del Sol Medical Center, said. “Each patient’s need is unique. The hospital’s goal is to meet each need with optimal care.”
To help consumers understand, compare and evaluate hospital performance, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcome data for all patients provided by 15 individual states and the District of Columbia from 2015 to 2017.
Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance for more than 4,500 facilities across the nation.
