Free Services Offered for National HIV Testing Day

For more than ten years community agencies and advocacy groups across the country have shed light on the effort to reduce the incidence of HIV through National HIV Testing Day.

With more than 2,000 people living with HIV in El Paso County, the City of El Paso Department of Public Health is renewing its efforts by offering free testing as part of this nationwide movement.

“Getting tested is the first step  in  knowing your own status which gives you powerful information about your own health,” said Irene Ovalle-Valdez, Program Manager.  “It’s important to remember that making a national and global impact starts with you.”

The theme of this year’s campaign is “Test Your Way . Test Today” and local leaders are hoping that day will be on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 when the HIV Prevention Program provides free testing at their location, 701 Montana Avenue, from  9:00 a.m. to  4:00 p.m.

The latest statistics show that in 2014, there were an estimated 37,600 new HIV infections in the country and in 2015, 99 individuals were newly diagnosed with HIV in El Paso County.

Those who are unable to attend the National HIV Testing Day event can call 915-212-6665 to set up an appointment at their convenience.
