Gallery+Story: Isotopes Top Chihuahuas 10-3

The El Paso Chihuahuas had a hard time getting outs on Friday as the Dogs dropped the series opener against the Albuquerque Isotopes 10-3. El Paso pitchers gave up 12 hits and their hitters struggled to get hits – in two innings combined.

Starter Walker Lockett (4.98 ERA) struggled through 3 2/3 innings throwing 80 pitches and was charged with nine hits eight runs. The Chihuahuas kept pace with the ‘Topes until the fourth inning when an evening rain came and brought six Albuquerque runs with it.

El Paso reliever Kyle McGrath (3.23 ERA) came in for Lockett but the ‘Topes ended the fourth ahead 8-2.

Albuquerque added a run in the sixth inning when outfielder Mike Tauchman (.349 BA) tripled and was brought home by a Josh Fuentes (.331 BA) sacrifice fly to center field, ‘Topes 9-2.

El Paso gave the crowd a brief chance to cheer in the ninth inning when center fielder Forrestt Allday (.230 BA) tripled on a well-hit ball to right center with two outs. Infielder Luis Urias followed with a single and brought him home.

Hope fizzled soon after when infielder Carlos Asuaje (.338 BA) grounded out and ended the game, ‘Topes 10-3.

One of the few Chihuahuas highlights was Asuaje who with a single to center field in the third inning, had a nine-game hitting streak.

The winning pitcher was Nelson Gonzalez (3-1) and the losing pitcher was Lockett (3-7).
