Young Boy’s Dream to Become Law Enforcement Officer Eclipses Diagnosis

Law enforcement officials from around the Borderland are rallying around a young boy who dreams of joining their ranks.

6-year-old Jace Canales is already dreaming about his future as a law enforcement officer.  It’s those dreams, and the visits by his fellow officers-to-be, that allow Jace to focus on the future, and not on his recent diagnosis of leukemia.

During his hospital stay, many local, state, and national law enforcement agencies have been sending in patches to Jace.

On Monday, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers made a surprise visit to the hospital to meet Jace. The Troopers learned about Jace and his love of all things law enforcement from Julio, boy’s father.

After the visit, Jace got in one last wave at his hospital room window as he watched the Troopers leave in their patrol cars.

Local law enforcement agencies and officials including Sheriff Richard Wiles, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, El Paso Police Department Officers and others have made the trek to meet with Jace and present him with patches, smiles and support.

According to EPCSO officials, Jace’s family says via Facebook that his hospital stay is into its second week, but after the visits he “woke up in a good mood, after some good sleep.”

The family also shares the social media tag #jacewillwinit for those wishing to show support for Jace.
