UTEP Softball’s Duffield Named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

UTEP softball player Kacey Duffield was announced to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA.

The junior infielder was named to the District 7 team, as the Fairbanks, Alaska, native posted a 4.00 GPA in Multidisciplinary Studies.

Duffield made a big splash in her first season at UTEP after transferring from Indian Hills Community College. Besides excelling on the field, Duffield was also honored as a Conference USA Academic Medalist, along with earning a spot on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

She hit .290 with five home runs and 22 RBI in 46 starts (51 games played). She added 17 runs and 10 doubles. Duffield also led the Miners with 230 putouts and started the final 36 games at first base.

Duffield hit a walk-off, three-run home run that defeated UTSA, 5-4, while she was also named the C-USA Hitter of the Week on April 16 after posting a .600 average with a 1.400 slugging percentage, seven RBI, two doubles, two home runs, four runs scored, a walk and stolen base during a series sweep of North Texas.

Duffield is the first Miner since Courtney Clayton (2016) to be named CoSIDA Academic All-District.

Duffield started the weekend with a 2-for-4 performance that included a two-run single during the third of game one. Duffield stole a base and scored a run during the fourth frame. She added seven putouts in the first contest. Duffield’s bat stayed for game two, as she registered a career-high four RBI.

She also connected on a two-run home run in the second inning of game two, while adding a two-run double in the fourth frame. Duffield drew a walk in the third and scored a run.

In game three, the Miners had to rally to beat UNT, as Duffield hit a solo home run – her fifth of the season and second of the weekend – during the fourth to get within a run. Duffield also doubled in the second.

Duffield is the second Miner to be named Player of Week after sophomore Pamala Baber was named Player of the Week on Feb. 26.

It’s also the first time since the 2015 season that multiple Miners earned the prestigious honor.

Ashely Eldridge was named Player of the Week on March 9, while current UTEP softball graduate assistant Kawehiokalani Netane followed on April 13.
