Kids-N-Company Camp Performs Shakespeare Production

William Shakespeare’s most popular comedy -“A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” – will be performed by KIDS-N-CO.’s Production Camp next weekend.

Directed by Vanessa Keyser, this camp not only delved into acting and theater, it also introduced the young people to the work and language of Shakespeare.

KNC Officials shared, “Fairies, star-crossed lovers and rude mechanicals that want to put on a show – with all these different personalities, what could go wrong? Plenty, when a trickster is involved…it’s all in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” was written around 1594 or 95. It portrays the adventures of four young lovers and a group of amateur actors, their interactions with woodland fairies and a duke and duchess.

Taking place in a mythical Athens and an enchanted forest, there is a handsome fairy king, a misguided parent, star-crossed lovers, a weaver who’s transformed into a half-donkey, wood sprites and elves. This work is widely performed around the world, and no wonder – it’s about the world’s most popular pastime, falling in love. But as Puck knows, falling in love can make fools of us all.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 6 & 7, and 2:30 p.m. July 8, at First Presbyterian Church located at 1340 Murchison.

Tickets are $5 for children, students, military, and senior citizens, and $7 for adults.

Additionally, there are still slots available for Production Camp 2 – Led by Emily James  – July 9-Aug. 4, 12:30-4:30 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church.

Tuition is $300 for the four-weeks of camp, which will culminate in three performances.  For more information call (915) 274-8797.

Kids-N-Co Acting Classes start Friday

Attention aspiring child actors, El Paso’s KIDS-N-CO. (KNC) announces the start of a new session of acting classes this week.

Kids hit the ground running at KNC during Acting Class. Even introductions are an intro to theater with games and improvisations. After the first class, groups will be separated by age and skill level. Each group will perform a short play that highlights what they learned in class.

Via a news release, KNC organizers said, “The skills developed and explored in our classes give students the ability—and the confidence—to become creative problem-solvers, inspired communicators and innovative thinkers. These skills help them improve their school work today, excel in the job market tomorrow including possible careers in the arts, and move successfully through life.”

Vanessa Keyser, a UTEP Theater Graduate and Co-Founder of Players on the Wall & Star on the Mountain theaters, oversees the program. Classes work to build each student up to the next level based on their individual needs. Each student will be required to memorize lines and participate in every class.

Attendance is important, as at the end of the ten-week session, students will show what they learned during a showcase for parents & families.

Classes are Saturdays, 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m., March 24-June 2, on the campus of First Presbyterian Church, 1340 Murchison. Tuition is $200. Class size is limited, so participants are encouraged to register early.
