TV news anchor and El Paso icon Estela Casas announced Thursday that she has created a new fund in the El Paso Community Foundation to help women with breast cancer.
The STAND WITH ESTELA FUND will help patients of limited means in their battle with the disease. Donors also may target their funds for research.
“I have health insurance, I have wonderful support from my coworkers, my family, and the community,” said Estela, who recently was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer. “But there are a lot of women who are going through the same thing, and they do not have that support. Those are the people I want to help.”
Albertsons, The Hospitals at Providence and the News-Press & Gazette Company, which owns KVIA TV, each made $50,000 donations to the fund during today’s announcement at the El Paso Community Foundation.
From October 13-31, Albertsons stores in El Paso and Las Cruces will give out Stand With Estela wristbands, while supplies last, in exchange for donations.
To donate, visit the Stand With Estela Fund, or call the El Paso Community Foundation at 915-533-4020.
