City Unveils Children’s Museum Concepts; Public Can Vote Online for Favorite Design

The El Paso Children’s Museum is progressing toward the next phase of the project, and the community is invited to help select the final design concept.

The design concepts will be on display in the lobby of the El Paso Museum of Art, as well as online. The public may begin voting online starting at noon, December 5, by clicking the El Paso Children’s Museum banner on the City of El Paso website. Voting ends December 15.

The community can choose from three design concepts presented by  renowned architecture firms; Koning Eizenberg Architecture based in Santa Monica, California, Snohetta based in Oslo, Norway and New York City, and TEN Arquitectos based in Mexico City and New York City.

All three finalists are internationally recognized, award-winning architecture firms. The winning firm will partner with a local architecture firm to complete the final official design.

The Museum will be located at 201 West Main between the El Paso Museum of History and the El Paso Museum of Art within the Downtown Arts District.

The Museum is one of the signature projects voters approved in 2012 as part of a $473 million Quality of Life Bond.

In August, Gyroscope Inc., an award winning design firm based in Oakland, California presented the Museum’s master plan that provided the framework for the architectural designs.

City officials hosted an unveiling Monday, December 4, at the Texas Tech School of Architecture located at 700 South San Francisco Avenue.
