The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department will close the Lionel Forti outdoor pool, located on 1225 Giles Road, this summer due to structural defects to the 56-year-old facility.
“An engineering firm has deemed the integrity of the concrete roof foundation over the bathhouse is unsafe and that even with resurfacing, it would still not meet the necessary safety requirements,” said El Paso Parks and Recreation Director Tracy Novak.
The pool which is scheduled for remodeling as part of the 2012 Quality of Life Bonds, will be closed until it re-opens in the future with amenities that will transform the pool into a state of the art outdoor aquatics complex.
While the pool is being renovated, the public is encouraged to visit the following City aquatic centers:
- Hawkins Pool (indoor) 1500 Hawkins Blvd.
- William W. Cowan Poll (indoor) 8100 Independence Dr.
- Pavo Real (outdoor) 110 Presa Place
