Video+Story: TNTM -Marvel Comics return of Wolverine

Marvel killed Wolverine back in 2014 in their “Death of Wolverine” series. He was supposedly sitting encased in Adamantium this whole time. We learn that Kitty Pryde phased through the metal and pulled Logan’s body out.

The X-men decided it would be best to remove him and bury him in an undisclosed location so nefarious people wouldn’t be able to abscond with his body and study how to replicate his powers.

Now, in 2018 the world discovers Logan is not in that Adamantium due to a botched robbery by the Reavers. A quick visit to his grave shows that is empty as well. Then we spot Wolverine in Marvel Legacy. He takes out a Frost Giant and nabs the Mind Stone (Infinity Stones).

Wolverine has been making cameos in a lot of Marvel titles. There is a “Hunt for Wolverine” intiative going on right now. All the other mutants have heard that Logan is alive and well. Some want to find him for good reasons, others for bad reasons.

All of this leads into the five issue “Return of Wolverine” series. Logan will be coming back with a new set of powers. When his Adamantium-laced claws are popped they have the ability to heat up. One of the many “Hunt For Wolverine” miniseries and one-shots should reveal how Logan will come to possess these new powers.

Marvel is billing “Return of Wolverine” as the final part of a trilogy that includes 2014’s “Death of Wolverine” and 2018’s “Hunt For Wolverine”. Return of Wolverine #1 (of 5) by Charles Soule and Steve McNiven arrives on September 19 from Marvel Comics.

Video+Story – TNTM: Marvel Comics Hunt for Wolverine

Everyone knows nobody stays dead in comic books…except for Uncle Ben. Marvel ran Wolverine through the wringer recently. First he started losing his mutant healing powers, then he discovered they were making more Weapon X type mutants, lastly he died stopping the Weapon X program and ended up being encased in Adamantium. Kinda ironic to be killed by the very metal that is infused to your skeleton.

But wait… several years later we find out Logan was not killed by being encased in Adamantium. He made his reappearance in Marvel Legacy. He has made some cameo appearances at the end of other comics in the meantime. Now we are getting a series of one-shot comics leading up to the Hunt for Wolverine.

The Hunt for Wolverine explains how it was discovered that Wolverine was no longer in the adamantium encasing. It also lets you in on how he escaped from the encasing. This answered two of the big questions I had after reading Marvel Legacy. One of my other questions is what does Logan plan to do with the Mind Stone.

Marvel Legacy introduced a lot of questions about many of their more popular characters. They seem to be focusing a lot on the return of Wolverine. With all the cameos and the multitude of one-shots centering on him, I have to believe he will play a key role in how they will deal with the crazy Celestial that landed on earth. They made a big deal about it in Legacy, but you haven’t heard much about it since then. I’m hoping they circle back and pick up that story-line again. You can’t just dump an insane Celestial in the middle of the Marvel Universe and then not talk about it.

Most people are happy to see Wolverine walking around the pages of Marvel again. There are others that believe dead characters should stay dead. Which side are you on in this debate? What other characters would you like to see be resurrected?

Alamo Drafthouse to Screen ‘Logan Noir’; Live Stream Q & A with Director

On Tuesday, May 16th, El Pasoans will join other audiences across the country, as fans re-immerse themselves in the bold and beautiful brutality of the Logan story, presented in stunning black and white for one night only.

Alamo Drafthouse and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment are proud to present Logan Noir, a new, monochromatic vision of one of the greatest comic hero films ever made. This one-time screening event will be followed by an exclusive, live streamed Q&A with director James Mangold.

“During production of Logan, I took many black and white photographs and noticed how striking and dramatic our gritty settings and characters appeared in monochrome,” said Mangold.

“The western and noir vibes of the film seemed to shine in the format and there was not a trace of modern comic hero movie sheen. Then, while editing, Fox and I started posting some of the black and white stills online and fans also began to respond enthusiastically, many hoping that they would get a chance to see the finished film in carefully timed, high contrast black and white. Well. Sometimes hope becomes reality.”

Attendees are requested to wear only black and white clothing and as a parting gift commemorating Logan’s final ride, all theater guests in monochromatic attire will receive an exclusive commemorative event poster.

“It’s an absolute honor to bring this unique and very special chapter to Alamo Drafthouse,” said Tim League, Alamo Drafthouse founder and CEO. “Being able to do this with the film’s creator only adds to the gravity of the event and we plan to make this an epic evening in all of our theaters.”

Additionally, attendees in every location will be able to participate in the live discussion with Mangold via Twitter using the hashtag #AskAlamo.

Tickets for all screenings are available now.

Students at 59 EPISD Campuses will get Free School Lunch, Breakfast

Students 59 El Paso Independent School District campuses will get free school lunches and breakfasts thanks to national program aimed at providing more nutritious meals students.

Laura Durán, EPISD’s Director of Food and Nutrition Services, announced that the District once again will participate in the Community Eligibility Program from the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.

The Community Eligibility Program, or CEP, provides breakfast and lunch to all children at no cost and eliminates the collection of meal application for free, reduced-priced and paid students meals.

“The application process can be cumbersome for some families, and we know that there are many of our schools that will have a majority of the students qualify for free or reduced-priced meals,” Durán said. “This program gives us the opportunity to reach as many students as we can in order to give them a nutritious meal that will help them be ready for instruction.”

The CEP targets schools with high volumes of students who would already qualify for free or reduced-priced meals based on income or other eligibility requirements.

The schools participating the program are:

• Elementary Schools: About Face, Alta Vista, Aoy, Barron, Beall, Bliss, Bonham, Bradley, Burleson, Burnet, Clardy, Clendenin, Coldwell, Collins, Cooley, Crockett, Crosby, Douglass, Dowell, Fannin, Moye, Hawkins, Hillside, Johnson, Lamar, Lee, Logan, Moreno, Newman, Park, Putnam, Powell, Rivera, Roberts, Rusk, Schuster, Stanton, Travis, Whitaker and Zavala.

• Middle Schools: Armendariz, Bassett, Canyon Hills, LaFarelle, Charles, Guillen, Henderson, Magoffin, Morehead, Terrace Hills, Wiggs.

• High Schools: Austin, Bowie, Chapin, Irvin, Jefferson, Telles Academy and the College, Career and Technology Academy.

Students attending schools not participating in the CEP may qualify free and reduced-price meals through the traditional application process. Each school in EPISD, as well as the Food and Nutrition Services Department, has a copy of the eligibility rules and guidelines policy that are used to determine participation.

Applications may be picked up at each campus, or they may be downloaded from the EPISD website at www.episd.org under the Food and Nutrition Services Department. Applications are also available in at the Food and Nutrition Services office at 6531 Boeing.
