Librarian from EPCC Elected as a Global Delegate

The Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) met recently in Dublin, Ohio and announced the election results for the Americas Regional Council (ARC), the Asia Pacific Regional Council (APRC) and the Europe, Middle Eastern and Africa Regional Council (EMEARC).

Lorely Ambriz, Librarian from El Paso Community College (EPCC), was elected as one of the ARC delegates to Global Council and will take her position on July 1, 2018.

“EPCC will have an active voice involving more library decision making,” Lorely Ambriz, Head Librarian of the Northeast Campus said. “Also, I can bring my networking skills with border states in the U.S., with Mexico, Central America, Caribbean and Latin America to bring their voices to the OCLC Global Council.”

Among her multiple accomplishments, Ambriz was named Librarian of the Year by the Border Regional Library Associations (BRLA) in 2017.

The 48 elected Delegates represent 20 different countries and a variety of library types. These delegates work on the member libraries’ behalf to keep OCLC leadership informed on member needs and interests.

Each year, delegates travel to the OCLC headquarters in Dublin, Ohio to share what they are hearing and learning from members.

The OCLC Council meeting was held on March 26–28

EPCC Faculty Member Awarded Librarian of the Year

The Border Regional Library Association (BRLA) has named Lorely Ambriz its Librarian of the Year for 2017.

Ambriz is an El Paso Community College (EPCC) Assistant Professor of Library and Research Instruction as well as a Librarian at the EPCC Northwest campus Jenna Welch and Laura Bush Community Library.

“Being selected as Librarian of the Year by peers means a lot, because they consider you an outstanding librarian making a difference in the field,” Lorely Ambriz said. “Being a faculty member at EPCC means giving my best to the students and the community I serve.”

Ambriz is also a candidate for the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) Global Council in the Americas Regional Council as a delegate representing the Academic and Community Colleges division. The election results will be publicized in April, 2017.
