36th Annual Lower Valley Health Fair Set for this Saturday

The 36th annual Lower Valley Health Fair will be from 8 a.m. to noon April 21 at Americas High School. The event offers free health services including, blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, hearing and vision screenings and pap smears.

Immunizations for children 0 to 16-years-old also will be available. Parents must bring their child’s immunization record. The cost for immunizations will be $10 for one or more vaccines.

A family fun walk will be at 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. In addition, pharmacy students and pharmacists will be available to review and discuss current medications for participants at the health fair.

The Mammos On the Move (MOM) van will be at the fair with technicians conducting mammograms. Those interested need to schedule an appointment with Desert Imaging beforehand and need to bring an insurance card. Cost for non-insured patients is $189.

Residents who are interested in the service may call (915) 400-0426 to schedule an appointment or for more information.

The health fair is made possible through a partnership among the SISD Health Services Department, the Lower Valley School Nurses Association, the City of El Paso Department of Public Health, Amerigroup, Whataburger, Foundation Surgical Hospital of El Paso and Eastside Family Care Center.

35th Annual Lower Valley Health Fair Offer Variety of Services Saturday

The City of El Paso Department of Public Health (DPH), as well as 80 other agencies will be offering numerous testing, screenings, and health information opportunities this weekend as a part of the Lower Valley Health Fair.

Now in its 35th year, the event will include everything from blood sugar and cholesterol testing to immunizations and hearing and vision screenings.

The event is organized by the Lower Valley School Nurses Association and will take place on Saturday, April 8th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Socorro High School, located at 10150 Alameda.

More than 2,000 people are expected to attend and local talent from the various school districts and the community will provide entertainment throughout the day.

“I am proud to be a longtime member of the planning committee for this event,” said Mario Hernandez, Public Health Educator. “We know that there are many in our community who may not otherwise have access to the services offered at this health fair, or who may not know what services the Department of Public Health offers.”

The following DPH programs are scheduled to participate this upcoming weekend: 2-1-1 Texas, HIV Prevention/MPowerment, Rawlings Pediatric Dental Clinic, WIC, Immunizations, Medicaid Waiver, Public Health Preparedness (Zika Prevention), Eat Well! El Paso, and the Tobacco Prevention Program.

Socorro ISD Lower Valley Health Fair set for Saturday

The Lower Valley School Nurses (LVSN) Association, in partnership with school nurses from the Socorro Independent School District, will conduct the 34th annual Lower Valley Health Fair.

This non-profit event is sponsored by Lower Valley School Nurses Association, University Medical Center and the El Paso Department of Public Health.

More than 100 agencies will be providing free health screenings and health-related information for the community. Local talent from the various school districts and the community will provide entertainment during the fair. In addition, physical fitness and exercise events will be offered for the attendees to participate in.

The free health fair is open to everyone in SISD and the Socorro and El Paso communities.
