Graduating El Paso ISD Seniors Thank Elementary, Middle School Teachers

Magoffin Middle students got a glimpse of their future last week, when more than 200 Irvin Rockets touched down at the school, donning their blue and white caps and gowns.

The seniors made stops at all the Irvin High School feeder pattern schools, which include seven elementary and two middle schools.

These graduation visits — which allow seniors to honor the elementary- and middle-school teachers that helped them along the way toward commencement, and give younger students a chance to see successful students — have become a tradition throughout EPISD.

So far this year, Franklin, Burges and Austin have made the visits to their feeder patterns.

Irvin senior Javier Coronado was pumped to visit the school and see all his middle school teachers.

“It was good to see them. I miss my teachers,” Coronado said. “I have fond memories of coming here. Being here brings back memories. It feels good. I hope the kids can look up to us and keep pursuing their education.”

Magoffin teacher Donna Alford was drawn to tears as former students greeted her and asked to take selfies.

“I’m so emotional. It is so awesome to see my kids again,” Alford said. “They even remembered some of the songs we used to sing in class. You push them so hard and to see them again at the end is just wonderful.”

Magoffin eighth-grader Michelle Guye is looking forward to being an Irvin Rocket in the fall.

“I’m excited to go to Irvin and being part of the high school,” Guye said. “It’s really cool that the grads took the time to come say hello to us.”
