Miner Athletic Club raising funds for UTEP Athletics Van on “Giving Tuesday”

Tuesday, December 3 is “Giving Tuesday” and in the spirit of the season, the Miner Athletic Club will be raising $15,000 for a UTEP Athletics Van.

“People are always asking me about how they can make a difference for UTEP Athletics,” Director of Athletics Jim Senter said. “This is an example of how any donation, big or small, can positively impact our department. I hope you’ll consider contributing to the UTEP Athletics Van initiative through our pick-a-project program.”

The van will support each of the Miners’ 16 Division I athletic teams while providing safe and comfortable travel to and from practice, competition, doctors’ visits and community events.

The van will also be used to assist with recruiting.

Fans can donate at six different levels – Prospector ($25), Oredigger ($50), Paydirt Pete ($100), Bronze Bar ($250), Silver Spade ($500) and Golden Pick ($1,000) – or contribute any desired amount.

For more information on the project, or to donate, fans can visit the website for more information.

The Miner Athletic Club serves as the fundraising arm for UTEP Athletics, providing scholarships and the financial resources necessary for UTEP student-athletes to compete at the highest levels and to achieve educational excellence.

UTEP rebrands, refocuses Miner Athletic Club

UTEP Director of Athletics Jim Senter announced on Wednesday a complete rebranding of the Miner Athletic Club, the fundraising arm for UTEP Athletics.

“We have been working hard to do an overhaul of our donor programs,” UTEP Associate Athletic Director for Development Nick Popplewell said. “Moving forward, the Miner Athletic Club will be focused on the highest levels of engagement and stewardship with donors. Supporters will receive exclusive benefits and special access, allowing us to thank them for their incredible generosity. We have also made becoming a Miner Athletic Club member easier through our reworked contribution options.”

UTEP unveiled a new Miner Athletic Club logo and a new tagline, “Creating Champions” (#CreatingChampions). The Miner Athletic Club raises monies to offset the cost of scholarships for more than 300 UTEP student athletes as well as fundraises for the Miners’ 16 varsity sports and capital campaigns/projects.

Staples of the rebranded Miner Athletic Club will include revised annual fund giving levels, new and improved donor benefits, new and revised annual events, and new sports excellence funds that will debut throughout the year.

The rebrand will also feature the launch of the Scholarship Society, comprised of UTEP Athletics donors who annually contribute at the highest levels to the Miner Athletic Club. A new-look Varsity Club, a place for former UTEP student athletes to connect, is coming soon.

“Every day I am amazed by our current donors as well as the individuals we meet in the community that want to help,” Popplewell said. “The potential here at UTEP is truly limitless, and invigorates our staff on a daily basis. If we do what we need to do, UTEP Athletics will become a preeminent Group of 5 program.”

UTEP Athletics Launches “Plant Your Pick” Campaign

UTEP Athletics and the Miner Athletic Club announced a new fundraising campaign on Tuesday focused on growing the number of donors as well as a way to increase current giving.

The “Plant Your Pick” initiative will aid in the Department’s goal of having the most donors in Conference USA. It will also help to grow revenue, drive fan engagement and allow UTEP supporters the opportunity to show their Miner Pride.

“UTEP Athletics is on a mission to become the preeminent program in Conference USA.  Every Person Makes A Difference #EPMAD, and the Miners need the support of all fans to achieve this goal,” Director of Athletics Jim Senter said.

Fans can participate in the “Plant Your Pick” campaign by making a minimum contribution of $50 to the Miner Athletic Club. As a thank you for their donation, each fan will receive a custom 3’ x 5’ flag, perfect for display at their house or tailgate party.

The flag proudly displays the iconic UTEP “pickaxe” on a Miner Orange background. Donors who have already made a gift of $50 or more during 2018 will automatically receive a flag. Should current donors wish to receive a second flag, they can do so by making an additional donation of at least $50.

Now, more than ever, Miner fans are being asked to step forward and be a difference-maker for UTEP Athletics. By participating in the “Plant Your Pick” campaign, fans are helping to support over 300 UTEP student-athletes. Also, every contribution helps to offset scholarship costs which allows UTEP Athletics to reinvest in and enhance its 16 sports programs.

Senter added, “Donating to the Miner Athletic Club is a great way to make a difference in the lives of our student-athletes and now, with the introduction of the ‘Plant Your Pick’ campaign, you can show that you’re on board for an exciting new era of UTEP Athletics.”

As an added benefit for taking part in the “Plant Your Pick” campaign, fans earn Miner Priority Points – two points for every $50 donated.

Fans who take part in “Plant Your Pick” are also encouraged to show their Miner Pride on social media. By taking a picture or video with their flag, and then posting to Twitter or Facebook, they will be entered into weekly prize drawings. When posting to social media, fans should use the hashtag #PlantYourPick, as well as tag the Miner Athletic Club – either @UTEP_MAC on Twitter or @MinerAthleticClub on Facebook.

Miner Athletic Kicks-Off End of the Year Giving Campaign with #GivingTuesday

The Miner Athletic Club encourages fans to make an end of the year donation to your Miner student-athletes today.

UTEP Miner student-athletes have accomplished some pretty remarkable feats throughout the course of this year. On the field, in the classroom and throughout the community the student-athletes have represented this university and city with pride and class. All of their achievements were made possible through the support of each and every one of you.

This year your Miners accounted for:

On the Field: 19 – All-Conference Athletes

In the classroom: 36 – C-USA Academic Honor Roll Medals

Throughout El Paso: 3,800 – Total hours of community service

The student-athletes need the fan’s help to build on their success and to maintain their competitive excellence. As 2016 comes to an end we encourage you to make an end of the year donation which will go directly to support the student-athlete scholarship fund.

All donations are 100% tax deductible philanthropic donations and have a direct impact on the lives of the student athletes on the field and in the classroom.

Tomorrow will be the launch of #GivingTuesday and the end of the year giving campaign, supporters will have the opportunity to contribute to this campaign all the way to December 31st. Make sure to check out the Miner Athletic Club social media pages as well as the social media accounts of all the different sports on Tuesday.

Events Will Take Place Before Every Home Football Game And Begin Three Hours Prior To Kickoff

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP Athletics and the Miner Athletic Club are excited to announce that all Miner Athletic Club pre-game tailgate festivities will be held at the Kidd Field track facility for the 2015 football season. The events will take place before every home football game and begin three hours prior to kickoff.

Last year’s festivities were held on the Glory Field practice facility, but were relocated due to field turf renovations.

“We are excited about our Miner Athletic Club tailgates moving to Kidd Field,” said Bob Stull, Director of Athletics.  “It’s the perfect location for fans and families to gather for a great time before enjoying every Miner football game.”

This year’s festivities are more convenient and fan friendly as:

  • The new location is now closer to the Sun Bowl Stadium with easy access to the stands
  • The UTEP band and cheer team will host a pre-game pep rally before all home games
  • Fans can enjoy a fenced-in grass area inside the Kidd Field track facility

Kidd Field tailgate tents are now available for parties of 50 persons and above ($425+) for each home football game. Each tent rental includes tables, chairs and the option to reserve your own caterer for each event.

UTEP Athletics will also host its own tailgate tent for fans of all ages. Season passes are available for all five (5) home games with the option to purchase single games. Each of these tailgate events include a meal, complimentary soft drinks/water, an exclusive UTEP giveaway as well as televisions with all the live college game-day action.

For more information on any of these options or to RSVP, contact the Miner Athletic Club at (915) 747-8759 or via email

The Miner Athletic Club (MAC) serves as the fund-raising arm of the UTEP Department of Athletics. The MAC’s mission is to annually raise funds to offset the departmental cost of scholarships and sport programs supporting UTEP student-athletes. Funds are raised by the Miner Athletic Club through annual membership, major and planned gifts, the donor portions of season ticket sales and special events.
