El Paso Region slowly defrosts from 1st Winter Storm of the season

El  Paso and the entire region continues to emerge from one of the most powerful winter storms in recent memory, with varying amounts of success.

While the city awoke to mostly clear skies and chilly temperatures, points west of El Paso were dealing with fog, while locations east of the Sun City were still trying to navigate ice-covered roads, bounded by snow drifts.

Via their social media outlets, National Weather Service officials warn of fog in Las Cruces and most of Dona Ana County through 11 a.m. Monday, with regional temperatures hovering in the 40’s all day long.

TxDOT officials shared that crews are out doing their part treating and clearing roads. Please do yours by slowing down and giving trucks plenty of space to do their jobs. However scores of motorists were still stranded in the area around the I-10/I-20 split.

The extent of the weather-related closures is illustrated by the maps provided by TxDoT and NMDot; as the western portion of Texas is covered in snowflake icons, while the eastern part of New Mexico is similarly covered in ‘road closed’ icons.
