Heritage Park sits upon an Archaic-period archaeological site, wetlands, and a desert botanical garden. The 4,500-year-old site is one of the oldest villages in the United States. The wetlands are home to many birds, and over 200 species have been spotted there on their seasonal migrations.

The botanical garden features a variety of native plants, and includes a pavilion and a replica of an Archaic period brush hut. The newest component, The Chihuahuan Desert Experience, is a work in progress that will allow visitors to stroll the 900-mile (1,400 km) length of desert over a 17-acre recreation of the plant indigenous life.

KCOS Seeks Digital Storytellers for Web Series ‘Only in El Paso’

KCOS, El Paso’s PBS station, PBS Digital Studios, and Destination El Paso seek digital storytellers for Season Three of their digital web series Only in El Paso.

Only in El Paso was first launched in the summer of 2014 with 10 digital videos sharing stories of people and places you can experience only in El Paso. Season Two continued in Fall 2015 with another 10 unique videos. The successful YouTube channel now has nearly 550 subscribers and 70,000 total views.

We believe there are still MANY great local stories to be told, so we’ve made a commitment to Season Three of Only in El Paso. We are looking for filmmakers from the El Paso/Juarez area to create and share a short (3 minute) story about something that from their perspective is uniquely and positively El Paso.

Suggested themes include but are not limited to: arts, food, traditions, history, music, language, economic growth, living on the border, local attractions and events. We want these episodes to resonate broadly- but they should feel totally fresh. What’s the one thing, place, person, or story in El Paso that you want the world to know about?

Remember that the challenge is that the episode and topic will have both local appeal and aninterest from a broader audience, since our series will also be shared national through PBS Digital Studios and highlighted by Destination El Paso, which supports tourism to our city.

We encourage interested applicants to view the past videos to make sure they submit new and unique ideas.

Benefits to selected producers:

 Opportunity to share your video across a broader audience including: KCOS (El Paso PBS), Destination El Paso, and PBS Digital Studios.

 $750 stipend in exchange for your 3 minute video and all rights for its use.

 Media coverage of overall series and potentially your particular episode.

Expectations of producers:

 Must meet deadlines for storyboard, initial draft and subsequent edits until video meets KCOS review standards.

 That you have acquired rights to all video and audio content in your episode.

 Must shoot video on DSLR camera.

To apply, please download the application at www.kcostv.org/onlyinelpaso

Deadline for applications: Monday, May 9, 2015

10 digital storytellers will be selected.

To submit application, email events@kcostv.org
