Parkland High student wins STEM challenge in Naval Academy program

Parkland High School junior Abraham Haggerty won first place at the inaugural Virtual Summer STEM program held by the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA).

Abraham not only earned first place in the Cybersecurity, Engineering Design, and Programming Challenge with his STRIKE group, but he was offered a conditional Letter of Assurance for a seat in the Naval Academy’s 2021 Summer Seminar program for his outstanding performance.

Typically, the Naval Academy’s summer program provides rising students an opportunity to look into USNA academics, athletics, and military training during program sessions at the campus in Maryland.

This year, due to COVID-19 concerns, the USNA was the only service academy to switch to a virtual program, which included about 2,500 high-school student participants worldwide who completed team challenges, academic workshops, and morning physical education.

USNA is the prestigious undergraduate college that prepares students to become professional officers of competence, character, and compassion in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
