Curious George, Dinosaur Train Visit for the 3rd Annual PBS Kids Fiesta

KCOS, El Paso’s PBS station, will once again host the 3rd annual PBS Kids Fiesta  from noon to 5 p.m. on December 2, 2017 at the El Paso Convention Center.

Thanks to support from The Hospitals of Providence Children’s Hospital, Texas Education Agency (TEA), Start Smart Texas and other local sponsors, families will have the chance to meet and take their photo with Curious George and Buddy from Dinosaur Train.

Children and families can enjoy an exciting day of live music, dance performances, as well as many fun educational activities and games.

Via a news release, KCOS officals shared, “The purpose of the PBS Kids Fiesta is to provide a fun environment for families and children to have access to important educational resources. Alongside the wonderful performers that are attending the event are going to be educational agencies and organizations that promote healthy child development and early childhood literacy.”

“One of the main goals of the event is to empower parents with the necessary tools to sculpt their child’s success.”

At the event, parents can sign up for the Start Smart Texas texting pilot program to receive free parenting tips texted to their mobile phones. Families that sign up for the texting will receive a free book.

Start Smart Texas empowers parents with tips that inspire positive interactions between caregiver and child to promote healthy brain development, early literacy and reading skills.

Start Smart Texas, a component of Governor Greg Abbott’s Texas Public Elementary School Reading Initiative – Texas Readers – which was announced earlier this year, is a parent-focused initiative designed to work with families, community leaders and schools to promote the role of parents in making any time a learning time. KCOS set to Host Annual Kid’s Fiesta Saturday

The annual, kid-friendly PBS Kid’s Fiesta returns this Saturday at Southwest University’s Events Center (6500 Montana.)

Officials with KCOS, El Paso’s Public Broadcasting System local affiliate, say that the PBS Kid’s Fiesta is a fun-filled family event, hosted every November for the benefit of the entire community.

Last year’s event had children and their parents meeting Thomas the Tank Engine; This year’s special guest is Bob the Builder.

“He’s coming to El Paso to inspire kiddos to be creative, to dream and to build,” says KCOS General Manager Emily Loya. “He’s here to help local kids to be problem solvers and get things done with a positive attitude just like he does with his team.”

In addition to the visit by Bob the Builder, there’s a variety of entertainment with performances from local groups, booths, food and drinks. Admission to the event is free.

Loya adds, “PBS Kid’s Fiesta is educational and interactive, as that is part of our mission here at KCOS…community events like this are made possible thanks to donations, KCOS members and sustainers and support from community partners and sponsors.”
