Learn The Art of “Repujado” this Saturday

The El Paso Museum of Archaeology invites the public to learn the art of “Repujado” at a free workshop from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 at the Museum of Archaeology (4301 Transmountain Road.)

El Paso artist Maria Almeida Natividad will lead adults and children in creating southwest themed art using the ancient art of embossing or pressing shapes into metal to create a unique design. “Repujado” arrived in Mexico during Spanish colonization and was developed as a way to protect church icons from the candle smoke that would damage images painted on canvas.

Everything needed to make a repujado, including aluminum metal foil and other materials, will be provided at the workshop that will be held in the gallery area of the museum.

Due to limited seating, registration is required. For registration or more information, contact the El Paso Museum of Archaeology at (915) 755-4332.

The workshop is made possible through funding by the Texas Commission of Art and the Museum and Cultural Affairs Department of the City of El Paso.
