The Community and Human Development Department, in partnership with the US Green Building Council (USGBC), is hosting GRO (Growth, Resilience and Opportunity) El Paso event on Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Fountains at Farah.
“Each day we face increasingly critical concerns regarding environment, human health and ongoing economic development. These are all quality of life issues. The intent of GRO is to activate a positive dialogue centered on collaborative solution based thinking, planning and implementation practices that can propel this community forward and set the example for other communities struggling with the same challenges,” said Nicole Ferrini, Director of Community and Human Development and Chief Resilience Officer.
GRO El Paso will highlight opportunities for El Pasoans to improve their quality of life by featuring green living workshops, interactive feature areas and informational tables from various city departments.
Officials say the free event will feature a variety of activities for all ages to enjoy, including educational booths, fun and games, displays, raffle items, music and food. There will also be a salsa cook off, pet adoptions from the Humane Society and gently used clothes drive to benefit El Paso Coalition for the Homeless.
The GRO mission is to increase awareness regarding sustainable community practices through education and outreach with the goal of maximizing resilience and quality of life. GRO is focused on expanding general public awareness on the importance of community and the positive impact it can have in our neighborhoods.
