Hospitals of Providence Announces Executive Leadership Promotions

The Hospitals of Providence announced Monday two key leadership promotions in their healthcare corporate structure.

“We take great pride in promoting from within and given the caliber of talent we have in both Sally and Nico, their respective teams and our patients will benefit from having them in their new roles,” said Eric Evans, President of Hospital Operations for Tenet Healthcare.  “They are outstanding leaders who embody our culture and values and live and breathe our mission – to help people live happier, healthier lives – every single day.”

Sally Hurt-Deitch, Group CEO for The Hospitals of Providence (El Paso) & Valley Baptist Health System (Rio Grande Valley), has been named Tenet’s Vice President for Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer.

Sally, a native El Pasoan, began her healthcare career in nursing and is an enthusiastic champion of high quality care for patients.  While driving significant expansion activities at The Hospitals of Providence over the last 11 years in CEO roles, Sally also maintained the organization’s focus on delivering the highest standards of care to every patient – having earned Leapfrog Hospital “A” Safety Score for five consecutive years at the THOP East Campus and being a three time Circle of Excellence award winner.

She has been recognized with many awards, including being named one of healthcare’s 10 women leaders to watch by Modern Healthcare, a recipient of the Corris Boyd Leadership Award by the American Federation of Hospitals, and a Distinguished Alumni by the University of Texas at El Paso – its first recipient of that honor from the College of Nursing.

Sally also serves as president of the National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives, serves as a member of the board of directors for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas – El Paso Branch, and serves as the chair-elect of the Texas Hospital Association.

As VP for Patient Care Services and CNO, Sally will lead, in collaboration with Dr. Octavio Diaz, Chief Medical Officer for Tenet, critical areas including quality, safety, and patient experience across all Tenet hospitals. Sally brings both clinical and administrative experience to this role having begun her healthcare in nursing and ultimately promoted to Group CEO overseeing seven hospitals with over 7,000 employees across three Texas markets.

Nicholas “Nico” Tejeda, CEO for The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus & Sierra Campus, has been named Market CEO for The Hospitals of Providence.  Nico brings a wealth of experience to his new role, with a strong focus on the patient experience and delivering high-quality care to every patient who enters our doors.

As Market CEO, Nico will continue to expand healthcare services and quality of care for the El Paso region. Since joining THOP in 2015, Nico has led multiple initiatives to expand care, such as an affiliation with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso. He also has been recognized with a number of Tenet and industry awards.

Nico will lead the market in collaboration with Monica Vargas-Mahar, El Paso Market Chief Operating Officer and CEO at The Hospitals of Providence East Campus.  Their combined experiences and dedication to the community will continue to move healthcare forward in El Paso.

The Hospitals of Providence covers the El Paso Region to include West Texas and Southern New Mexico. The system includes Memorial Campus, Providence Children’s Hospital, Sierra Campus, East Campus, Transmountain Campus, Horizon City Campus; Imaging Centers; Trawood and Northeast Emergency Rooms; Paso del Norte and El Paso Day Surgery Centers; Teen Health Resource Centers; Wound Care and Hyperbaric Centers; Inpatient Rehabilitation Program; Outpatient Therapy Centers; MedPost and MedPost Kids Urgent Care Centers; and ‘A New Me’ Surgical Weight Loss Program.

Hospitals of Providence Market CEO Hurt-Deitch honored with Leadership Award

The Federation of American Hospitals (FAH) presented Sally Hurt-Deitch, RN, FACHE, Market CEO of The Hospitals of Providence with the 10th annual Corris Boyd Leadership Award. Sally was honored during the Opening Session of the FAH Annual Meeting held in Washington, DC on February 29, 2016.

Sally was honored for her work inside The Hospitals of Providence and in her community and was described by presenter Lisa Thompson-May, Chairman of the FAH Exposition Advisory Committee as “an exceptional leader who is an ambassador for the healthcare profession, whenever and wherever she speaks.”

As a nurse by trade, Sally understands what it means to be in the trenches and to provide care for both patients and their families. She serves as CEO of El Paso’s largest health care system and is often seen walking the floors of the hospitals talking with team members, patients and their families to ensure patients receive the best care possible and her staff is equipped with the tools to make this a reality.

Her work extends beyond The Hospitals of Providence as she understands the importance of giving back to the community and giving support to organizations that share a common vision to move health forward and improve the health and wellbeing of El Pasoans.

Sally is also a mentor working not only with those who want to pursue careers in health care, but other youth in the El Paso area.

Being a mother of a son with Autism has given Sally a unique understanidng of how someone with a disability can contribute to an organization. In August of 2015, Sally shared her personal story when she gave a TED Talk about raising her son Liam. Sally is an amazing example of what the healthcare industry strives to achieve.

The Corris Boyd Leadership Award honors an individual or company that has made an outstanding contribution in fostering leadership in the health care industry.

The FAH established the Corris Boyd Leadership in 2007 to honor the late Corris Boyd, who spent his career working with hospital management companies and group purchasing organizations.  Corris Boyd committed his life to diversity and excellence in health care. He believed that leadership development is crucial to success and was devoted to the success of minority- and women-owned business enterprises
