Video+Story: Captain Marvel review, audience reaction at Alamo Drafthouse

Fans of Marvel Comics MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) have been waiting for this Captain Marvel movie ever since the end credits of Avengers: Infinity War. When Nick Fury pulled out that paging device that displayed Captain Marvel’s symbol the internet went crazy with fan theories.

Fan theories and speculation are what helps ease the anticipation until the next movie, so that is not a bad thing.

There was a lot of hype building up to Captain Marvel. The MCU had been taking heat for it’s lack of screen time for it’s female characters. DC proved there is enough demand for a strong female lead character when Wonder Woman did so well at the box office. Some backlash about Brie Larson’s comments caused a huge online down-vote campaign against the movie. The audience rating on Rotten Tomato and the User rating on IMDB were both very low before the movie had even aired at one theater.

Thankfully the movie going audience actually showed up to watch the highly anticipated film. Captain Marvel pulled in $20.7M on Thursday preview night, $62M Friday and is on pace for a $160M opening weekend. That is good enough to put it third for the month of March after Beauty and the Beast ($174.7M) and Batman v. Superman ($166M).

Patrick and I really enjoyed Captain Marvel. There are lots of little references and cameos sprinkled throughout the movie. The most heartfelt is what is likely the last time Stan Lee will make his famous cameo. There is also a very touching homage to Stan Lee at the beginning of the movie. It is a nice gesture to thank the man who was without question the ambassador for comic books, regardless of the publisher.

You don’t need to take our word for how good the movie is. We asked members of the audience their thoughts on Captain Marvel. Everyone we talked to both on and off camera gave praise to the newest entry into the MCU.

We are predicting a surge in Captain Marvel costumes at comic cons and especially during Halloween this year! If you haven’t seen Captain Marvel yet, we highly recommend it. If you have watched it, let us know what your favorite part of the movie is in the comments.

Video: M. Night Shyamalan Glass Review and Audience Reactions

M. Night Shyamalan completed his Eastrail trilogy with Glass. It is the sequel to both Unbreakable and Split. Glass ties the previous two movie together rather nicely.

In Unbreakable you are introduced to Elijah Price and David Dunn. Elijah Price has a rare disease causing his bones to be brittle and broken easily. David Dunn finds out he is super strong and impervious to a lot of injuries.

In Split we get to meet Kevin Wendell Crumb and his 20+ personalities. We find out that one of those personalities is the Beast who also has superhuman strength.

Glass stitches these two movies together. Glass should shut the door on the Eastrail trilogy, but it opens the door for another related movie. All I am gonna say is I am thinking about getting a clover tattoo.

We recommend watching Glass, especially if you’ve seen the previous two movies. If you’ve seen Glass let us know if you agree/disagree in the comments.

Video+Story: Glass by M. Night Shyamalan Preview

For me, Unbreakable was really the first superhero movie. Before the big box office Marvel and DC movies, we were introduced to David Dunn (Bruce Willis).

We find out that David Dunn is super strong and nearly indestructible after he survives a train wreck. We also meet Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson). His real name is Elijah Price, but got the nickname of Mr. Glass due to his fragility.

Mr. Glass is a big comic book aficionado. He figures if there is someone as fragile as him, it stands to reason there should be those on the other end of the spectrum as well. He has set out to find the super-human equivalent of himself. That is where David Dunn figures in the equation.

Then we have the movie Split with James Mcavoy playing a multiple personality person who goes by the name, the Horde. One of his personalities is a super human individual that has the most basic instincts. We have no idea that Split is connected to Unbreakable until the end scene that shows David Dunn in his characteristic rain coat.

Now we have Glass which is being billed as the third movie in the trilogy. From the trailers it appears that all three (Mr. Glass, Horde, and David Dunn) are all in the same asylum being treated for believing they are super heroes. Mr. Glass seems to be the evil mastermind using the Horde to carry out his demands. David Dunn is the quintessential good guy trying to stop them.

Unbreakable and Split were both really great movies in their own right. Knowing they are tied together in a trilogy elevates them in my mind. I am really hoping Glass puts a big exclamation point on the series.

Did you like Unbreakable and Split? Are you looking forward to Glass like we are? Let us know in the comments.

TNTM: Glass is the sequel to M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable

Unbreakable and Split get a sequel. Unbreakable was the superhero movie that preceded the blockbuster Marvel and DC superhero movies.

It managed to tell a great story about a superhero and super-villain without relying on high tech gadgets or CGI graphics. Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis really brought their characters to life.

Fast forward to present time. M. Night’s movie Split introduced us to a multiple personality bad guy played by James McAvoy. Split was a good movie in it’s own right. What got a lot of us fanboys excited was the cameo of Bruce Willis’s Unbreakable character, David Dunn. A lot of younger movie goers might not remember that character from a movie that was released 17 years ago. Us old timers had an absolute nerdgasm upon seeing Unbreakable linked to Split.

The sequel will be titled “Glass”. If you remember, Samuel L. Jackson’s villain character from Unbreakable was named Mr. Glass due to his medical condition giving him very fragile bones. There hasn’t been a lot of information given on this movie as of yet. M. Night Shyamalan has confirmed it is definitely linked to Unbreakable and Split. The early rumors are Mr. Glass is the main villain manipulating James McAvoy’s character to due his bidding.

If M. Night can recapture that magic he had with Unbreakable the movie will be amazing. I love to see heroes and villains depicted as everyday people instead of over-hyped blow-hards in tights and a cape. It will also be interesting to see Jackson, Willis, and McAvoy playing off each other on the big screen. This movie has the potential to be another box office hit for Shyamalan.
