New Socorro ISD Elementary School Meet-and-Greet Preps Faculty for Next Year

Administration, faculty and staff at Sgt. Jose F. Carrasco Elementary School gathered for the first time in preparation for the 2018-2019 school year.

The teachers of the Socorro Independent School District’s newest campus set goals to ensure they hit the ground running on July 30, the first day of school for the next school year.

“We are excited to be a part of something great and historical,” said Jesse Sepulveda, Sgt. Jose F. Carrasco Elementary School principal. “The goal is to start fresh and strong, so we can be ready to create those endless opportunities for children.”

“You get one chance to make a great first impression, and one chance to start a strong school,” Sepulveda said. “That’s why we are here, to get that chance to do it the right way. Strong foundations are important and we want the transition to be seamless for our students.”

After individual introductions, faculty members participated in team building activities and toured Purple Heart Elementary School to get a feel of their new campus. The team also worked on building curriculum structures; social, emotional learning structures; and college and career initiatives.

“I’m super excited to meet everyone and really honored to be able to transfer to this new school,” said Rita Cervantes, who is currently a kindergarten teacher at Chester E. Jordan Elementary School. “You can feel all the excitement and energy as soon as you walked into the meeting.”

A parent information night for the new elementary school will be 5:30 p.m. on May 25 in the Pebble Hills High School theater. Parents will have an opportunity to take a virtual tour of the new school and meet administrators, faculty and staff. In addition, informational booths with the school nurse, the counseling department, child nutrition services and police services will be available.

The teachers were excited to learn facts about their new campus, including:
  • The school was named after the late Sgt. Jose F. Carrasco, SISD’s first police sergeant who ensured the security of SISD students for more than 34 years.
  • The school mascot is the Buffalo and school colors are red, white and blue.
  • The school was built with Bond 2011 savings and will be designed similar to Purple Heart Elementary School.
  • The campus is located at 14900 Tierra Mirage.
