33rd annual Socorro ISD Spring Games set for Wednesday

The 33rd Annual Socorro Independent School District Spring Games, one of Team SISD’s most popular events, will be April 3 at the Student Activities Complex.

More than 800 special needs students will participate in track and field events, such as 10- and 25-meter walks, assisted walks and 25, 50, 100, 200 and 400-meter runs.

Other events include relay and wheelchair races with and without assistance.

A large audience of parents, families, teachers, students and community members are expected to attend the games to root for the student-athletes. Elementary students will compete from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and secondary athletes (middle and high school) will have their contest from 2 to 5:30 p.m.

Both sessions will begin with a mini parade that will include athletes, SISD administrators, teachers, staff and more than 200 volunteers.

Since it is endorsed by Special Olympics Texas, the Spring Games are a local SOTX competition with our students being SOTX Athletes in Training. They will have opportunities to compete city and statewide.

Socorro ISD Farmers and Artisan Market Set for Sunday

As Spring has arrived in the Borderland, the Socorro Independent School District is again hosting its free Farmers and Artisan Market.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, March 25 at the Student Activities Complex located at 1300 Joe Battle.)

The event is part of the Healthier Team SISD commitment to promote health and wellness among students and the community.

The free event will include products from local merchants and artisans, food and live music. Children’s entertainment, student art work, organic produce and crafts also will be available.

A free beginner’s yoga class will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. and a walk in honor of SISD student worker Mariana Chavez will be from 10-11 a.m.

Guests also can take photos with the Easter Bunny and participate in a fun Easter egg hunt.

Socorro ISD to Host First Farmers and Artisan Market on Sunday

The Socorro Independent School District invites students, parents and the El Paso community to its first Farmers and Artisan Market on October 1 at the SAC.

“This is a great way to promote health and wellness in our district and community,” Erika Lucero, SISD marketing and sales coordinator said. “We have received a lot of positive feedback from parents and students who are eager to visit our first Farmers and Artisan Market and see our stadium.”

The event is part of the Healthier Team SISD commitment to promote health and wellness among students and the community.

The free event will feature artwork, crafts and fitness learning stations, including a free beginner’s yoga class from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and a breast cancer walk from 10-11 a.m. In addition, students and guests will have the opportunity to check out local merchants, artisans, food and live music.

Walk participants must wear tennis shoes and are encouraged to wear pink. Walkers also can email their name and picture to Erika Lucero, SISD marketing and sales coordinator, at elucer01@sisd.net if they wish to be announced at the event.

The SISD Farmers and Artisan Market is planned to be a regular event happening once a month on Sundays.
