Video: TNTM ‘SpiderMan Far From Home’ review & reaction at Alamo Drafthouse

Spider-man Far From Home is the much anticipated sequel to Homecoming. This is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie since Avengers Endgame tied up the past decade in a pretty little bow. Far From Home did not disappoint.

It was a bit of a different take on the character of Mysterio, but we can live with that. Gyllenhaal did a fantastic job of bringing Mysterio to life.

Tom Holland was great as Peter Parker again. He plays the naive, wet behind the ears young Peter Parker to a tee.

You don’t have to take our word for it. The audience overwhelmingly enjoyed the movie. Just watch the video and see for yourselves.

We have also added a Google Voice number where you can call and leave us your thoughts. If they are good, we will use them on the show. The number is (575) 323-1332.

Video: TNTM’s This Week in Nerd for June 14 2019

We are going to a different format with the show. It was decided that a review of the cool nerdy stuff from the week would be more entertaining than talking about shows that not a lot of people are watching.

This is the inaugural episode of This Week in Nerd. Patrick and I will ramble on about what we think is the most interesting pop culture goodness from the week.

This week we focus a lot of E3 because… well because E3 is pretty awesome. One of the big announcements was Cyberpunk 2077 with Keanu Reeves voicing one of the main characters. Keanu is a real hot commodity right now. He has been around for a long time, but the success of John Wick has catapulted him to one of the biggest names in Hollywood right now.

E3 also saw the new Star Wars game teaser. about 14 minutes of game play were shown. From everything we saw it looks like it will be worthy of carrying the Star Wars name.

We also talk a little about the new Galaxy’s Edge area at Disney Land. It looks AMAZING! We are both waiting until the Disney World park opens their own Galaxy’s Edge area before we go.

Let us know what you think about the new format for the show. You can also leave your comments about all the cool E3 announcements.

We have also added a Google Voice number where you can call and leave us your thoughts. If they are good, we will use them on the show. The number is (575) 323-1332.

Video+Story: Spider Man into the Spider Verse Movie Review

We have been anticipating Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse ever since the first trailer hit the internet. The comic book inspired animation along with the choice of having Miles Morales as the lead character was 2 great decisions.

Miles Morales has been a favorite of comic book readers since he was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sarah Pichelli. His following outside the comic book pages has been small. Hopefully this movie will help to bring him into the public’s eye.

His origin story is roughly parallel to the Spider-men/Spider-women of other dimensions… They get bitten by a radioactive spider and gain powers. Their powers are mostly the same, except Miles also has the ability to camouflage himself in his environment and he has a venom strike that can paralyze most people with just a touch.

The villains in this movie aside from Kingpin don’t get mentioned much. They are used as stereotypical bad guys, but they are some of the bigger names in the Spider-man rogues gallery.

There are some great easter eggs hidden throughout the movie. Pay close attention to the names in Mile’s cell phone contact list. You’ll also want to stay around for the after credits to get a glimpse at another lesser known Spider-man variant, Spider-man 2099.

We really like Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse. The audience overwhelmingly agreed with us. Sony has finally made a Spider-man movie that rivals the Marvel movies. Sony may have found their niche in animation.

Let us know what you thought about the movie in the comments. What was your favorite alternate dimension Spider-man?

Video+Story: TNTM Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse Discussion

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is an animated superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Miles Morales / Ultimate Spider-Man.

The premise is a scientific experiment gone wrong creates a rift between dimensions. This allows Spider characters from those dimensions to cross-over to the Miles Morales Ultimate Universe. It’s a good thing because it is gonna take all of them to fix the problem before it destroys all the multiverse.

The animation style used for Into the Spider-verse is a unique combination of the in-house computer animation of Sony Pictures Imageworks and traditional hand-drawn comic book techniques.

The trailer gives us a glimpse into what appears to be the Spider-man movie we deserve. We will see if it lives up to it’s promise when Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hits the big screen on December 14, 2018.

Video+Story: Venom Movie Review

Venom is one of the more iconic and loved Spiderman villains. When it was announced Venom would be getting his own movie, fanboys world-wide rejoiced.

Then it was announced Spiderman would not be mentioned at all in the movie. Also, no symbol would appear on his chest. At this point I started to get worried. How can you have a Venom movie with absolutely no connection to Spiderman.

I still held out hope the movie would be well written and faithful to the character. Shortly into the movie, my hopes were dashed.

The origin of how and why Venom (and the other symbiotes) came to Earth was completely changed. I can get past that. They also based it in San Francisco. OK, Eddie Brock did spend some time in San Fran. I was getting tired of New York based super hero movies anyway. They also changed Venom’s personality and demeanor.

That is where I lost connection.

Venom is not a humorous character. It felt like Sony tried to steal a page out of Marvel’s book. They wanted to mix action and humor to get a blockbuster movie. I have no issues with that, but I feel Venom was not the character to drive the humor. It felt to me like the only thing related to Venom in the movie, was the title.

Talking to other audience members, I found I was in the minority on those views. I think if you watch Venom with no prior knowledge of the character, you will probably like the movie. If you go into the movie expecting to see a version of Venom similar to the comic books…. you might be disappointed.

I am usually able to suppress the fanboy in me and watch the movie objectively. I was not able to do that with Venom as they departed so drastically from the Venom I know from the comics. The movie is still on pace to break box office records for an October release. That along with the fact that the audience members we got reviews from all seemed to enjoy the movie, tells me Sony will likely go forward with their other Spiderman related movies.

I am crossing my fingers that Morbius doesn’t stray too far from the source material.

Video+Story: TNTM Talks Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies

Marvel used their movies to build up to the big confrontation in Avengers Infinity War. They teased Thanos here and there throughout their other movies so that when he made his big appearance in Infinity War, most people already knew all about him and what a big threat he is.

We are hoping that Marvel starts building up to another of their epic stories after the Thanos situation is resolved in Avengers Infinity War part 2. They have plenty of great line wide story arcs that would translate nicely to the big screen.

Another thing we are hoping for is to start seeing more crossover between the movies and TV shows. Cross your fingers!
