Video+Story: TNTM Talks Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies

Marvel used their movies to build up to the big confrontation in Avengers Infinity War. They teased Thanos here and there throughout their other movies so that when he made his big appearance in Infinity War, most people already knew all about him and what a big threat he is.

We are hoping that Marvel starts building up to another of their epic stories after the Thanos situation is resolved in Avengers Infinity War part 2. They have plenty of great line wide story arcs that would translate nicely to the big screen.

Another thing we are hoping for is to start seeing more crossover between the movies and TV shows. Cross your fingers!

Video+Story: TNTM – Spider-man into the Spider-verse

Ultimate Spider-man was created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sarah Pichelli. Miles Morales first appeared in Ultimate Fallout #4 following the death of Peter Parker. Miles is from the Ultimate Marvel continuity, which was separate from the mainstream Marvel Universe.

Marvel ended the Ultimate Universe in 2015 and Miles Morales is one of the characters that made the transition to the mainstream Marvel continuity.

Miles was bitten by a spider genetically engineered by Norman Osborn who was attempting to duplicate Spider-man’s abilities. Miles gained abilities similar to the original Spider-Man. His spider-sense is not as strong. It only warns him of immediate danger. Miles has two additional abilities; he is able to camouflage himself and he has a venom strike that paralyzes almost anyone with just a touch.

Into the Spider-verse sees Miles crossing into parallel dimensions to team up with the Spider-Men of those dimensions to stop a threat to all reality. The Spider-verse concept originated in the comic books. It has also been adapted into the third/fourth seasons of Ultimate Spider-Man (2012).

They want the movie to feel like you are inside a comic book. CGI was combined with comic book techniques to make it appear to be created by hand. Judging from the trailer, they succeeded.

We will be watching this in theaters on December 14th. Miles Morales is a great Marvel character and it’s about time he sees some of the limelight. Are you excited to see Into the Spider-verse? What alternate version of Spider-man are you hoping to see in the movie? Let us know in the comments.

Video+Story: TNTM – Marvel Comics’ New Villain Named Red Goblin

Two of Marvel’s most dangerous Spider-man villains are Norman Osborn and the Carnage symbiote. Now try to imagine if both of those were merged. Ka-Blooey! mind blown!

Norman has been searching for more power ever since Peter Parker found a way to negate the Goblin formula in his body. Norman figured out he has a penchant for using magic/sorcery. He tried to convince the Temple with No Name to instruct him in the ways of sorcery. Despite his immense potential, the keepers of the temple deemed him to be too villainous and evicted him. He even went so far as attempting to break into the Sanctum Sanctorum…unsuccessfully.

Norman learned the Carnage symbiote was being held in the Lock Box, an underwater containment facility for dangerous extranormal artifacts located at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. He had his henchmen retrieve it and it appears he has bonded with the symbiote. The big question is which crazed personality is the dominant one.

So far, most of the goblin copy-cats have been lackluster. This one looks promising since it is the original Goblin coupled with an equally insane symbiote granting him unimaginable power.

Do you like the idea of the Red Goblin being a bonding between Norman and Carnage? What do you think it will take to stop this villain?

TNTM: Spider-man Homecoming Movie Review

Marvel Comic Spider-man movies

Spider-man has been one of the flagship titles in Marvel Comics line up ever since he debuted in Amazing Fantasy #15. Somewhere along the line Sony acquired the movie rights for Spider-man. While they’re Spider-man movies with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were financially successful, they seemed to miss capturing the essence of Peter Parker/Spider-man.

Sony agreed to share the Spider-man rights for the movie Captain America: Civil War. They parted ways with Andrew Garfield and chose Tom Holland to be their Peter Parker. Even though Spider-man had a very limited amount of screen time, his impact on the movie was huge. The audience cheered when he made his appearance on screen.

Sony shared their movie rights with Marvel again for Spider-man Homecoming. The result is an awesome movie that seems to capture the innocence and naivete of Peter Parker and his strong personal drive to do what is right no matter the cost to him personally. Tom Holland played the part to perfection.

As good as Tom’s performance was he was nearly overshadowed by Michael Keaton as the Vulture. In the comics the Vulture always seemed like a hokey character. An old man flying around in a bird suit. He was never one of my favorite Spidey villains. The portrayal of Vulture in this movie made him feel like a serious threat. Keaton was just the right amount of menacing to pull it off. If he doesn’t get a best supporting actor nod for this movie there is no justice in the world.

Easter eggs in the movie

True to all Marvel movies, there are a ton of Easter eggs that may have been missed by the casual fan. If we missed any let us know in the comments.

Betty Brant as the high school reporter. She eventually graduates and works at the Daily Bugle with Peter Parker.

Ned Leeds as Peter’s friend. Ned also ends up working at the Bugle and he marries Betty Brant. He does a turn as the villain, Hobgoblin as well.

Flash Thompson is Peter’s main high school bully. He hosts the Venom symbiote for a while as “Agent Venom”.

Mac Gargan’s is one of the Vulture’s accomplices. Mac is the villain known as the Scorpion. He hosted the Venom symbiote for a short time too.

Aaron Davis is the Ultimate Comics version of the Prowler. He starts out as a criminal, but eventually turns to the good side. This isn’t really an Easter egg since they tell you he is Prowler. The Easter egg part is he is the uncle of Miles Morales who is the Ultimate Comics version of Spider-man. This opens up the door to having Miles Morales appear in an MCU movie.

Tyne Daly’s character, Ann Marie Hoag, actually exists in the comics. She is the director of the clean up crew Damage Control. Interesting note, Damage Control is owned by Tony Stark and…..Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin. Maybe we will see Kingpin in the MCU soon.

The principal at Peter’s school is Principal Morita. In one scene you can see a picture of his grandfather in his military uniform. You might recognize him as one of the Howling Commandos that fought with Captain America.

They guy that made Vultures mechanical wings and all the other cool weapons is Phineas Mason. Comic book aficionados will recognize this name as the Tinkerer.

Cindy Moon is a relatively new Spider-man character. She was bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker. Her powers are similar to his with some small differences. She goes by the superhero name of Silk.

Even the most casual fan will enjoy this movie. It really captures what makes Spider-man such a popular character. The hard-core comic book fans will enjoy it too with all the references and name dropping of other Spider-man characters. This is a great start to launch a series of Spider-man related movies from. The best thing Sony could’ve done is share their movie rights with Marvel. The Marvel movie formula is still strong and still works like a charm.

Please let us know in the comments below if we missed anything.  We tried our best to avoid any major spoilers.

TNTM: Top 10 Comics for November 2016

Marvel reverses their fortunes in November. The Top 10 for November makes it look even between Marvel and DC Comics.  If you expand your view out to the top 100 a different story is apparent.

Marvel has shook off their performance of the past few months and is the dominant publisher for the month of November.  They have a majority of the sales in November.  Even though Marvel is back on top, DC Comics has the top 2 spots overall with Batman #10 & #11.  In fact, all of DC Comics top 10 titles were Batman related.

DC Comics is leaning heavily on Bruce Wayne right now.  Marvel relied heavily on new titles for their top 10.  Invincible Iron Man #1, Amazing Spider-man:Renew Your Vows #1, Venom #1 and IVX (Inhumans vs X-men) #0 were all in the top 10 for Marvel.

Their only non-new title was Civil War II #7.  The only title not from the big 2 publishers was Walking Dead #160 from Image Comics.

November Top 10

TNTM: Prowler is coming back to Marvel Comics

Hobie Brown (Prowler) was born in the Bronx, New York. He was a bright but angry teenager who got fired from his window washer job. The Prowler has no superhuman powers.  He is naturally inventive especially in the field of pneumatics.  Hobie relies on a suite of technical gimmicks he created. He is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, possessing a green belt in Taekwondo.

Prowler wears modified coveralls interwoven with denim and stretch fabric.  His suit is equipped with gas cartridge bracelets and anklets capable of propelling projectiles at high velocity. His arsenal of projectiles include steel darts (“flechettes”), gas pellets, small explosives, magnesium flares, and cleaning fluid.

Prowler has been known to use hypnotic aids and conventional hand-held weapons. He wears steel-tipped gauntlets for scaling walls and shock absorbent foam rubber insulated boots. He also wears a cape which contains a network of pneumatic filaments which expand with air to give it a rigid structure allowing him to glide for short distances.

Intending to use his engineering skills for personal profit he devised a plan to steal items while disguised as a super-villain and then return them as Hobie.  This didn’t work out too well for him as he was caught by Spider-man.  Spider-man convinced him to turn his life around.  Hobie eventually became an ally of Spider-man.

Peter Parker turned Parker Industries into a global franchise with Spider-Man officially acting as his “bodyguard”. He hired Hobie Brown to act as Spider-Man in situations where the public would expect to see Peter and Spider-Man in the same place. Following the fight against Zodiac’s Pisces Sect, Peter tells Hobie to change into his Prowler costume and that they’ll retrieve the Webware together before Zodiac undoes his encryption.

Wanting to know more about New U Technologies, Peter Parker sent Prowler to infiltrate it. He ended up encountering the late Maxwell Dillon’s revived girlfriend Francine Frye who is now the new Electro. Prowler was chased around by Electro and was accidentally killed. Jackal managed to revive him with his memories intact. While learning about Jackal’s mission, Prowler ended up becoming loyal to him and started acting as his spy to find out what Parker Industries is up to.

Press Release

Even a super hero’s life can get boring. Double check your gear. Patrol the city. Save the innocent. Report back to your super villain boss, the Jackal. Wait, WHAT? You read that right True Believer, Hobie Brown is in the employ of one of Spider-Man’s greatest villains. And it’s all happening in the can’t-miss debut issue PROWLER #1 – launching as part of The Clone Conspiracy event! Sean Ryan and artists Jamal Campbell and Javier Saltares bring you an action packed debut chapter that will redefine the Prowler! But…why is The Prowler working for The Jackal?!
